For those people who are religious, I suppose.
Is religion needed in this world?

Religion is like technology, it can be something constructive or destructive depending on how a person percieves and uses it.
There were both beneficial and harmful things made my humans for the sake of religion. It can't be blamed or praised.
If it was not for religion people would find other ways to fight or be in peace. Afterall humans make their own choices.

I myself have often pondered about if a world without religion is possible. I don't know if science will somehow reach the point when humans will be able to overcome their physical limits, defeating illnesses, or being immortal...etc., in which case there would be no need to be religious, waiting for god to grant eternal happiness and erase our pain.
God is also used to explain how the world came to existence. Scientists have already come up with models about how "nothing" can be "something", and if one day it will actually be proven somehow, then there really will be no need to believe in god.
But somehow I get the feeling that even then there would be religions, in a different form.
As for now, religions have played an important part in history, sometimes a positive, sometimes a negative role. Religions had their own evolution, and it was part of the evolution of culture. The human consciousness is such that evolved into being able to reflect on its own existence, which led to asking certain questions. The usage of tools required a different structure of thinking, which reformed our brains. Then the more developed brain allowed us to form language and share thoughts. Then people collectively formed beliefs and religion was born.
I had a debate with someone once who said that it didn't make sense to him that humans would come up with anthropomorphic gods. Well, still that's what happened. People worshipped objects, orbs, and pantheons of gods, who were very similar to humans. The reason is obvious I think. The monotheist god was nowhere for thousands of years. But religious people like denying this fact, because it would lead to the conclusion that the concept of god was invented by humans.
In short, I for one don't need religion, but it still has an important role, so I don't mind. The problem is intolerancy, not religion itself. However, it's true that for example believing that the soul survives the body, and should be saved, per se led to people die and torture themselves and others pointlessly.
