Imagine a world without it for a second. This world already has a little morality because of religion, take religion out then murder, rape, torture and hell will break lose. I'm serious here, religion being gone will turn this world into a living hell in less than a hour tops.

Religion causes many wars so.....

After reading this you made me change my opinion.

Religion is needed. Without it, what would man blame its' barbaric and vicious history on.

"I killed you because my God told me to, not because I'm a murderous savage who is responsible for my own actions"

Religion is man's greatest escape from self-responsibility. Without it, we wouldn't be human.

in an educated first world country where science rules all, no its not.... but in a third world country, maybe, since it gives hope
but who am i to decide? im just giving my opinion on this, so to all religious people pls dont be butthurt...

I am not butthurt. U_U

Everyone has their own believes. Religion was always there & will always be. Some are using it for bad some do it right. It's up to the People. So, for example, if someone makes a bad thing in the name of Islam, blame that guy, not Islam as a whole because its not the fault of the religion itself, it's the fault of that Person. Blame him. That person could be ignorant, uneducated or stupid. That's my view, this is how I see it.

Well since we all come from someone giving birth it makes sense to keep tracing your lineage farther/further back to eventually wondering who "birthed" the first person of your ancestry. Then tales will spawn in substitution for facts/knowledge about your first ancestor.

Religion shows people a lot about themselves. Like what they are willing to accept as true or false, fact or fiction, and good versus evil. Seeing someone's actions to preserve religion versus someone's actions to preserve life can make a big impression.

The big thing involves death and potential life after death and the fear and uncertainty surrounding it all.

It may or may not be needed , but if it turns out that "GOD" or the religious text were true, then they really will be a little more than a history book probably.

It isn't really needed, but it can help. We have nature all around & in us , and just adapt to things, we don't really need "religion" or "belief in a supernatural being" to "function" or be "better" people. People who have faith in "GOD" don't really "know" for sure either.

We're all here and all going to die , but being religious doesn't really add anything to life except and adjective. Atheists, agnostics, and the religious all live and die the only way people are capable.

In the beggining it could move the masses against opression and actually helped critical thinking, there's no point now though (I think the time of religion has passed), it's only making things worst in the present

If the religion is regarded as a meditation process or a philosophy on how to live in harmony with either nature or yourself, than yes. If its regarded as a conduit, do that, do this, stop saying this..than no! To belive in God has nothing to do with religion. Don't believe in nothing that you cannot trully understand or feel. Think with your heart, and if you consider that something is ok, then acknowledge it. Nothing else, nothing more.

Depends on what side of the coin you're on. If you believe in a god or a higher power then you'll probably say its needed. If you don't then you'll probably say that religion is a bunch of bullshit.

Well, think of it this way: No-one really cares whether or not you need the bike until they fall off it a few times. I think religion sets you up for disappointment. Was Santa Clause necessary? Nope. How about money? Uh uh. Man has always needed some kind of danger, strife, or discomfort to validate the very enjoyment of simply being. Playing video games gets boring after a couple of hours when you do it everyday, but a child who has never played before can play for days without getting jaded. Our approach to life and living seems to be the same way. We need some powerful old man pointing lightning bolts at us to make it more interesting. We need to believe that an omnipotent being that knows all and sees all favors us as a species over the countless others that it purportedly created; first. Religion is simply a supplement for existence when life itself is not enough. Whether or not it's needed depends on the existence in question.

i never blame a religion, but the people. but if there wasnt religion there wouldnt be people to use it to get to power maybe? maybe not idk tbh.
but what i highly dislike is when religious people deny facts and chose to ignore those. like saying evolution is not true, there were adam and eve and the world is like 6k years old....thats what annoys me most...

Not anymore. It was important to our history but now I honestly think it's starting to become obsolete.

The body is the temple and the heart is the door. Filter things with the brain and you will end up with voices in your head. You must first let go of what you know and start saying i do not know. After a while you will start feeling what is what. You might think that people will lear from history but, what history do they know? the real one? or the one writed by winners, so to speak.

For me personally i would say a simple peaceful life is needed but having a little culture mixed in there would really do some good for you entirely. i am not into religion really but i once was very religious. These days i claim to be an atheist, Bear in mind there are four types, but i am the one who is like: i don't really believe in god but i could be wrong. so umm yeah that's me)

But i have done a little piece of research to tell you this because i can't put it down in words ha. Here u go:
Religion gives us moral values and answers the questions that cannot be addressed by science.
Religion has been an important place in the history of civilization. It gives a meaning and purpose to human life and satisfies man's longing for peace and salvation. Religion has been defined as “the relationship between man and the super- human power he believes in and depends upon”.
The goal of religion is getting in tune with the infinite. Moreover, the philosophy of religion is neither ceremony, nor ritual, nor going to the temple (or whatever is your place of worship), but an inner experience which finds God everywhere. Religion consists of a number of beliefs relating to reality which cannot be proved by science, such as, does God exit? What happens after death? How did we come into existence? Why are we here? What is the purpose of life? Religion helps to extend the view of an individual beyond our dimensions.

So umm using what i just gave you u could make your own choice.

big difference between science and religion is, that a scientist would eventually change his opinion and mind, if his oponent has a better, or proven argument, while religious people usually never change their opinion and cling on their beliefs and ignore facts and new discoveries and such....
