big difference between science and religion is, that a scientist would eventually change his opinion and mind, if his oponent has a better, or proven argument, while religious people usually never change their opinion and cling on their beliefs and ignore facts and new discoveries and such....

Lets be serious here, many of the things in the bible and other holy books are outdated and somewhat barbaric as they are many times maxist, homophobic and anti-other beliefs

People are inherently spiritual. We seek to understand our purpose, role, or meaning in life. There is something very peculiar about the experience of life where, as they say, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

Sure, the chemicals and neurons firing in my brain ultimately lead to my body behaving the way it does. But at the same time, I can tell when I am being 'not me.' Even when under the influence of an anesthetic or other drug - I realize when I say or do things that I would otherwise not do.

There's a uniqueness to the perception and experience of life that goes beyond a purely material, kinetic description of the world.

We tend to refer to all ideas related to this as spirituality. The not-thing(s) that make us who we are.

As such, there is always room for intelligent discussion related to spiritual concepts. Some are very simple, others reach to larger models of cosmic scale and implications.

Religion is an institution of man. It is what happens when people share their spiritual beliefs and begin to rally around commonly held ideas and beliefs.

Spirituality is so important to humans, that in the past, it was used as a means of establishing government power and authority. As such - religions became very influential facets of human authority structures and, thus, became highly politicized.

Religion is going to happen. It is not something that can be gotten rid of, as all human beings develop a spiritual belief and inherently base their concepts of human authority around them. Where you find politics, you will always find religion. Politics is not about what is right or wrong - it is about who it gives and who it denies authority.

But it is entertaining to see the deluded call for the end of religion only to rally around topics like global warming to call for the forcible imprisonment and execution of other people.

It's a good thing I stopped taking life too seriously. It's much more entertaining to keep things in perspective - we are all just trying to choose our way to die.

It keeps peace, yet causes war kinda ironic. I shall kill in the name of the lord!!!! Which would be totally against what a God would want. Religion is a tool to control people to forge what is "natural". For example I saw some thread about homosexuality and his argument was its unnatural and its no point because you can't reproduce. However, what is natural? Is talking through a device to a person across the globe natural considered natural in the 1500's? You would be burned because you were a witch. My point is nothing is natural until we come to accept it for what it is. Just food for thought not trying to start a spartan war. I believe the real religion is needed, the real truth which I don't think any religion is remotely close to.

It doesn't matter if some scientist are religious, the definition of science stays the same.

If today god was proven real he would no longer be a belief but a fact and part of science.

Imagine a world without it for a second. This world already has a little morality because of religion, take religion out then murder, rape, torture and hell will break lose. I'm serious here, religion being gone will turn this world into a living hell in less than a hour tops.

and what what that guy said ill add my reply with it:
religion is the purpose in our existence, slowly and slowly people are forgeting their purpose and only living in this world but deep down they know that what they r doing is wrong and that there is something missing they feel they are lost no matter what they get, no matter how rich they become they still feel that there is something missing and that is a religion....
time by time the devil started playing with people making them forget god forget religion forget doing good deeds and forget the afterlife and the day of the judgement and making them do bad deeds and kill and rape etc.
humans were all going to enter hell but after god saw this because of his wide mercy he sent messengers to guide people but only a bunch of people became awake and were believers and the rest kept denying everything and tryed to kill the messengers of god.
they denyed the messengers calling them stupid mad people also after showing them miracles they said that it is just magic.
i cant explain everthing in a reply but ill tell u all in this:
this world right now has forgotten god and is heading towards a dark age.
they are taking religion as just a simple word but they have not realized that it is the purpose of living.
without religion u will feel depressed all your life.
think about it.... about the sky the earth the space etc
was it just a coincidence?
about the sun and the planets being in such a good formation and maintaning balance
dont u think that there is someone behind all of this?
dont u feel deep inside u that there is someone who made u?
example:
could the the woods just become furniture?
or is it the furniture maker who brings the wood and forms it to create the the seats, beds, cabinet, door etc?
and just like how the furniture maker made the wood to furniture
god made us humans to humans he is the one controlling and ballancing the world

Religion gives the basis of creation of world. In ancient times, people didnt have the technology or enough resources to know how the world works,how things came into existence. How natural phenomenon operated. that lack of knowledge gave them the idea of god(for sake of justifying things) , giving them the idea that there is a power which operates the world and we need to worship them and stuff to endure in the World of Masters . Subsequently people began to fear and worship, and things goes on and on and on..
Now when we have knowledge, we see many people questioning the existence of god and from here we got Atheists ...
