So I live in a pretty nice neighborhood with an OK community and like 2 blocks away from where I live they want to open this homeless shelter/drug rehabilitation center/court criminal sentencing center.

Today we had rally and we were protesting against it. We just dont want that around the corner from our community. I dont think that is wrong. My sisters walk by themselves and stuff and I wouldnt feel safe with them walking if they opened that.

I would say it's wrong but it's your choice, if you don't feel safe then I understand

You are one selfish ****.

Lol, I was waiting for those insults......

OT: I used to be near a similar situation, though no one had a problem with it from what I recall....

It's not wrong, but make sure you protest because you have the right reasons.

which, so far, you seem to have

I understand that but a court criminal center, Drug rehab, they need to put it somewhere else not in the middle of a community.

Like someone said you are protesting against the location not the shilter itself . I really pity and want to help those people who wants help.

But of course No one wants drug delaers around their houses because it may cause troubles ,so those kind of shilters should be far away imo.

How am I selfish? Please like you would want that in your neighborhood.

Wow, people trying to better themselves, better ruin it cuz some people are scared. Instead of protesting, do some research and see if you can find a better location for these people. Even if they close down the operation to put the shelter where it's currently going, it's not like they're going to magically find a better place. If your problem is the location, and not the center itself, then spend the time and resources you were using to protest to try and find a better location. Float it by city council. They get their shelter, you get to have your community remain unchanged, everyone wins. Protesting is just a bad way to do this.

Nope. I wouldn't want that either. It would bring the neighborhood property value down. I don't understand homeless shelters. You know what solves the homeless problem? Winter

You don't understand providing shelter for people without any?

People protest all the time, it was a peaceful one, we didnt cause a ruckus. And our community has fought for a senior center for 4 years now and the City never got back to us. Now out of nowhere they throw this on us. Sorry but this is bad, this is bad for any community, a drug center or a criminal sentencing center. Come on.

If your city has ignored you, then they'll probably ignore you now. Still, it's not like you're doing anything to help these people. You're only focusing on the negative aspect, completely ignoring the part of this that's helping less fortunate people just because you don't like the idea of its location. Like I said before, you should try doing some research and seeing if there's a better place for this to go. If you can't do that much, then you don't really deserve to be preaching about doing something to "fix" your community.
