Water is half the element nature required required for the wood style. I'm not personally sure if the second had the earth element to match, and use in conjunction with water so I couldn't say. .

Well the first's wood element was a kekkai genkai so I think that only he could do it because on some kind of genetic ability that allowed him to mix water and earth

thats what i'm kind of saying Yamato has the 1st hokages dna, and has his wood element release but he wears the 2nd hokages faceshield/armor. I kind of don't get why he just wouldn't wear something like the first hokage would wear or something completely diffrent to surprise his opponet when he uses a wood release.

I've been thinking Yamato is a clone of the First so that means he is the only TRUE Senju left but when people talk about the last of the Senju the say Tsunade and Naruto but Yamato would be concidered the last of the senju....Right?
