Hinata is the standard mary sue romantic girl for Naruto and the fact she was killed standing up for Naruto was convention-breaking and surprising. With keeping her alive she is literally JUST a standard mary sue romantic girl for Naruto, and nothing more.

I agree with the first part. I really thought that would have been a poetic ending for her, just like Kakashi dying to protect Naruto. Both should have stayed dead.
