Though hippie optimists call it bad, with the dumb saying an eye for an eye leaves you both blind, it would really benefit us if murderers and rapists and such got much harsher punishment. The government spends of billions of dollars every year on the prison system, and it could save a lot of money, and make it people were actually afraid to get in trouble. It costs millions dollars to execute 1 death row prisoner, depending on which state it happens in, when it would cost only a few dollars to drag them out back and shoot them in the head once convicted. The criminal justice system in the US is so pathetically corrupt that its sad really. Any criminal of any crime can buy their way out of trouble if they have the money, but then you get cases like my step dad who broke his own TV when he moved out if his exes house 5 years ago, and got charged with felony destruction of property and is currently serving 3 years for it because he can't afford a top-notch lawyer.

So, would you go rape the rapist?
If someone kills 2 more the one people, would you kill him twice?

In the situation of I killed your mum, would you kill me? or Kill my own mother in order to inflict me with the same pain? I personally would choose the latter, but maybe I don't love my mother as much as you loved yours, and that's how the shortcomings emerge ~
And in this example, if you'd kill His mother, you'd punish the mother as well.

This isn't the way to resolve problems I don't believe in an eye for an eye because we should be able to forgive those who do us wrong.
Good good. Spread your ideals to everyone so that I can kill and pillage to my hearts content and will never receive any retribution! Forgive me while I am stealing everything you ever owned and worked hard for. Forgive me while I kill your entire family and dance over their corpses! Forgive me when I turn your mothers skull into a drinking cup!

Yeah, forgiving and forgetting really worked when the Vikings were invading Europe and plundering its riches. Your hippy ideals do not work and have never worked. It works similar to Communism. The perfect system when everyone works together perfectly however completely unusable when you have people that deviate from the system for personal gain.

So, would you go rape the rapist?
If someone kills 2 more the one people, would you kill him twice?
Nah you let a horny tiger do it XD. But seriously you just shoot them to prevent further harm.

Sure why not. Good luck reviving him after he gets a bullet through the head.

And in this example, if you'd kill His mother, you'd punish the mother as well.
Are you dumb? You kill the murderer.

No I wouldn't kill him twice, I would beat him to death slowly over a several day period. Rapists, find the nearest large round object, there are plenty of objects available, I wouldn't do the raping myself. And no you don't kill his mother, you force his mother to kill him.

But seriously your right hippie optimism sucks, and communism if actually done right with a wealthy enough country would be a really good system.

That's the stupidest system ever created by humanity. An Eye for an eye was used back in the days. We read about it in my U.S world History advance class. I still cant get over the fact it exists, who in their right mind would believe it's fair?

Let say your brother kills the brother of his enemy for whatever reason he got. So tell me, will it be fair for you to get punished for what he did? Because and eye for an eye would mean that they get to kill you for being the brother since he killed someone else brother.
I know I wouldn't want to be punish if anyone in my family did stupid things. Plus if the person did something, he or she should be held responsible for his/her actions. He kills then death row, he/she does something like steal or harm them they should get thrown in jail and pay for their errors.
We all have brains, if you're able to think of a plan in how you end up killing 1,000 people then you're not sick of stupid, you should be held responsible.

Perhaps back in the days it was alright but I doubt they'll ever use it again unless they really don't care about human rights.

It might be a good idea at the time but it'll just be a never ending cycle of people avenging other people. Love makes the world go around U_U

Human rights....they never actually existed. No if your brother kills someone, then someone close to who he killed should be allowed to kill your brother.

Eye for an eye could also be interpreted: if you kill someone you receive the same fate as the victim to whom you inflicted the crime upon.

Several problems with an Eye for an Eye.

-Firstly, if someone is killed for committing murder, but didn't actually commit the murder (Which has happened, false accusations happen very often in many countries) then the whole idea of an Eye for an Eye is rendered invalid. Also if someone is falsely punished for an offense then surely that person hasn't been punished but murdered. Who is punished for his death under the rule of an eye for an eye. The Judge? The Government who allowed it to happen? Everyone who didn't stop it? It just simply wouldn't work on a national scale.

-Secondly, Revenge isn't a just cause to punish someone. People should be punished for complete Justice. Simple!

- The Bible is a contradiction because in the same book it promotes forgiveness. I think that alone completely discredits it and if it doesn't, the book is old and not relevant to a democratic political system like we have today.

eye for an eye was just there to scare the sht out of people. Then no one would dare commit a bad act and everyone would just do good things and there would be heaven on earth. This is what the creator meant or he was not so wise after all to create a barbaric punishment system.

Pretty good points you make there.

Justice is another word for letting social norms and someone else handle the situation. When someone goes to jail you don't think it ends do you?

IMO Karma exists and its a Bitch ... either way you end up screwed wether you follow the principle or not. Irony is Karma's bitch. An eye for an eye will happen due to Karma - no matter if you want it or not.

The government only sends people to prison because they profit from it, nothing to do with them believing in justice.

The idea of sending people to prison isn't to make money and it is Just in its basic values. If you kill someone for killing someone then you are just commiting the same crime that you are punishing them for. It doesn't make sense.

And on top of that, who decideds whats fair? If a kid is hungry and steals some fruit who gets punished for it? The child who is just living off his basic urges to eat? Or his parents who doesn't have enough money because they can't get a job? Or the government who's job it is to provide for everyone in the country they govern over and should provide for themselves? Who is to blame?

So many issues with an eye for an eye its unreal and it doesn't matter how many times you redefine it, it will never be fair.

Of course it is, it should be the only punshiment system in the world though of course some of us do not agree because we are most likely to end up on the other side of the law.

It works well though has several loops for instance, picture me killing a how village or tribe, how would you assess my judgment using this system, kill my clan mates even when they are innocent or what?
It is good but not water tight.

Well there was a chain of murders in my locality. Basically they were two branches of the same family tree..... and there was a Feud over a piece of land that had very high market value... this Feud resulted in the First ever Killing of one brother by another.

This destroyed the family of that other brother and so they planned another assault on that other brother.... and killed him. (During this the case of the first killing was still being discussed in the court)

And it went on.... recently the very last member of that Family was killed by hired guns. And that killer was hired by a friend of a long dead family member who had nothing to do with the land or the extinguished family in itself.

Basically if you start retaliating for every single attack it sets in motion a chain reaction. That is why a non partial system of Justice is always helpful in solving such cases in their very preliminary stages. But these days Machinery of providing Justice has slowly but surely degraded which reverts people back to the older barbaric ways.
So if there are people who agree with eye for an eye its our Fault and no others.

Even the most educated and advanced country in the world does not follow these ideals ....I am referring to the US of A, the retaliation they did for 9/11 was absolutely unjust and barbaric, but hey they are the ones who make the rules.

The child isnt carry bad intentions, hes doing what he needs to do to survive. Prisons are made for profit, the government wouldnt fund them if they didnt get anything back. Thier given over 50k a year for every prisoner they have.
