So you say religion has set back humanity in it's advancement? I suppose you base this off of what christions have done in the past, but what of Islam? Many improvments to the mathematical, scientific, astronomical, historic etc fields were made by muslims before they were implemented by the romans and greeks. I hope you're not ignorant of this, are you?

Because of the tyrannical imposing ideals of Religion, the Dark Ages were able to last for far longer. Without the Dark Ages humanity would have advanced far more in that time and this time (our time) would have been objectively more advanced.

What of Islam? It's grouped in with Religions either way. It can add to Mathematics, sure, but it creates just as much controversy and social stigma as an other theistic religion.

Christians only do those things out of fear that they won't go to heaven.
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” - Marcus Aurelius
I don't even understand the quote but
Its not out of fear that's a pretty big assumption on your part
The bible doesn't say "oh go to the shelter and feed and help people or God will be angry" I do because its nice and I feel good about myself
The bible teaches me about these morals that I should have and other Christians teach me about these morals and doing the right thing
Its not out of fear
I really don't think doing nice things voluntarily affects your heavenly status

The Laughing Man;13139101[B said:
]It's probably due to your own hard work, not some form of divine intervention. [/B]You what they say. Two hands at work will always produce more results than a thousand hands clasped in prayer. I never understood why people give God credit for anything. If he does exist, he would have no interest in the life of one person. It's really an arrogant thought by man to think that an Almighty Being would actually care what happens to him
But I've done nothing. I literally have done nothing and these things were handed to me on a silver platter. How is it a coincidence that I prayed for something and it happened when I've never said a word about it to anyone else?

This is pretty offensive
Don't forget that its the Bible that the US constitution is based off of
Don't forget its the Christians that are visiting shelters
When was the last time you've heard of a group of atheists going to a homeless shelter
Christians embody morality and pureness by their appearance
If this world didn't have these kind of peaceful people where would we be
Also no one is calling any atheist a hater and its not like the Christians are the ones bullying the gays and making them commit suicide
Christians only protest for purity in the USA and everywhere
Homosexuals shouldn't be active in society

Only on Sundays. I've seen them sin Monday through Saturday but as soon as Sunday comes their saints. Pretty hypocritical. And why are people homeless? Cause of the bad economy caused by multiple wars a handful of which are caused by religion. And honestly no one pointed out Christians only people said religion why do you feel so offended? And really its mostly people who are strictly religious who are homophobic. Ever since I was a kid I never heard any Atheist or person who just believes in god and not religion say "Homo's are bad" only religious people who sing the same song all the time "All gays are gonna go to hell"

I think its great you got what you wanted. But that's not how god works. You can't ask god for an ice cream cone, others come before .

My point was, you act as though religion is all negative and has set back humanity's advancement, I'm just simply pointing out, in the case of Islam at least, you are wrong.

Religion or not, controversial and stigmatic issues will exist either way. Anyways, I doubt neither you or I will be able to understand each other, seeing as how we both have polar mind sets regarding the beginning of life and such, I doubt we'll be able to see through each others eyes, I for one know I don't.

I would actually like to go on debating this topic, but I came hhere for Naruto, not religion, so I'll stop :)

Haha! If we didn't have religion we would be declaring war on one another for being terrorists, oh wait...

No religion = Nothing changed but people have less morals. Having one wife as a norm is a christian ideal, in nature the more you can reproduce the better so getting a harem would be everyone's goal.

More books were written in 100 years of the "dark ages" than in all the ages before combined. The "dark ages" were only "dark" because Rome was destroyed. The idea of schools for non-aristocrats came into being during that time, of course you had to become a monk.

You know nothing about the dark ages and your opinion is now invalid.

These are some good points.

Anyways, some claim religion has set humans back in technological advancement ... and to SOME degree this holds true, however, when it comes to ''morality advancement'', religion has helped by leaps and bounds.

Morality > technology

I've sbeen people like that too
And they're not considered saints
And I'm talking about Christianity because that's my religion therefore I'm defending it there are other religions starting war
I don't remember Christianity starting any wars

Stop saying homophobic
Phobic=phobia=fear
I'm not scarred of homosexuals
I have homosexual friends
I don't agree with their lifestyles
Personal I strongly believe homosexual is a mental condition similar to pedophilia, perversion, and rapist intent but that's another subject
Not all Christians understand homosexuality as being something in the head
And its against humanity so its classified as an abomination practice
This kind of stuff was rejected in the bible so its rejected by those who study the bible and recognize right from wrong rather than flowing with the mainstream

Because the foundation of religion breeds ignorance. People are indoctrinated from birth to believe in a higher power and "his" will is absolute. No proof; just indoctrination. Without the ignorance spread from religion, many people would be more individualistic and rely on themselves rather than resorting to the "God's will" excuse for any of their failures and or down comings. If it wasn't for religion, we'd have probably been 5 times as advanced as we are now and have colonized another planet.
The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Just cause you can't see something doesn't mean it's not there. You do know there's a new species of insect thats almost as small as a germ that was discovered this year? That can't be seen by the naked eye. Just cause we can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And scientist have said that they can't scientifically explain how or why it is so small. This proves that Science can't explain everything and that our knowledge is limited so how can you say for certain? And honestly colonized on another planet? You've gotta be kidding me

Maybe they would've advanced during that time but how do you know for certain humanity would've advanced during this one? And also advancing in technology isn't always good.

My opinion is invalid? Please. I've seen your posts on Religion related topics. You're the most indoctrinated of them all. I've seen you literally preach about God's will and acts, yet, guess what? They're not tangible!

Do some research, with the beginning of the power of the papacy came the fall of paganism. The library of Alexandria contained to our knowledge the foundations of hydraulics, calculus, and atomic theory (Derirum Natura). When the Christians razed the library we lost all of this. From what traces could be found we found those and many more teachings. Imagine all the other teachings we may not have had to found again had some fanatic zealots of Christianity taken out their lack of understanding of the world around them on the world attempting to understand.

Without Christianity, we would have held on to further knowledge.

You don't remember Christianity starting any wars? How about the holy wars? Y'know the Crusades? And how is it a mental disorder? It's their life style. It's like how different people get turned on by different things.(Ex-Tits,Ass,etc.) Homo's get turned on by d*cks end of story.

The bible never referred to Homo's at all. Show me a sentence in the bible that directly refers to homo's. People just started lying and using the bible as an excuse. This is why I don't believe in organized religion. And what do you mean stop saying homophobic? Yes a phobia is being scared of something but homophobia is a different thing "Homophobia encompasses a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. It can be expressed as antipathy, contempt, prejudice, aversion, or hatred, may be based on irrational fear, and is sometimes related to religious beliefs." You're the living proof religion breeds ignorance.

I really don't see how it's so hard to believe there's at least SOME form of intelligent designer behind the universe.

Take something as simple as a wooden wheel. If you were to find this wheel in the middle of no where, you'd come to the conclusion that this wheel has an intelligent designer behind it's creation, as the wheel's design is fat too complex to simply ''just happen''.

Now apply this train of thought to humans, their intelligence, the thousands of animals and plants with mind-blowing capabilities, the balance of the cosmos, or the consistancy of the sun and planets.

Morality > technology

Maby some religions like the Amish, but they are a special type of people who want to live as simple as possible. The protostant reformation actually empowered and encouraged learning. I could type a large list of revolutionary era people who learned for the sake of helping others, or I could just say "Nickola Tesla" was religious and tolerant of other religions.

I will admit some people don't know how to use the brains that god gave them but getting rid of religion cannot fix stupid. Just look in Soviet Russia, they genocided tens of millions of orthodox Christians and thought it was a smart idea.

Spiritual. Most people are this days. It rejects traditional organize religion. Most people should change to this and maybe we want have any problems. The bible this and that. Forget the bible for once. It is not an excuse for you to dehumanize individuals because of Religious belief. They reflect your morals and ethics you know. Example, place your self in Hitler shoes for hating a Homosexual. You do not want to right? Shut the fuck up and leave it alone. Equality or equal above the law.

You must be registered for see images

And misinformed people like you are part of the exact same problem. You hate people, who have been misguided, and taught things that are not the truth.

There is NO part of Christianity that advocates hateing people, and condemning people. There is no part that tells you to mistreat, or hate someone who does something that is wrong, or a sin.

Jesus(aka the perfect role model for Christianity)(or what could be called the perfect Christian), did not go around hateing prostitutes, greedy tax collectors, and all other sinners. Instead he went around preaching forgiveness, love and to love one another. He didnt go saying sins should be accepted, but rather people should be treated with love and kindness, and respect, regardless of who they are and what they do.

Nowadays, there are many forms of churchs who preach hate, and condemnation(something Jesus did not).

They are taught to hate sinners(such as lbgt people) and many treat them as something less than human.

On the flip side you have people who hate people who think lgbt is wrong, and treat them as if they are lesser than themselves.

In actuality, if you and these people, just recognized that people can have different opinions on how to live their lives, and even if they disagree, still treat each other as equals, there would be no problems.

I as a Christian find the act and lifestyle of lgbt to be disgusting and wrong. It would be wrong of anyone to FORCE ME to ACCEPT that kind of lifestyle.

But it would be wrong of me to treat or view the lgbt people differently than I would any other person. While i find their lifestyle and choices wrong, i will still treat them with love respect and dignity.

It is not my right to force them to change their lifestyle to fit my views, as it is not their right to force me to change to fit their views.

An example. If i own a cake makeing company, and a gay couple wants me to make them a wedding cake, i should be able to say no, if i dont condone their lifestyle.

I would be fine if i was getting married, and went to a cake maker, and they didnt sell me a cake because they dont condone of my straight lifestyle. If they dont take my buisness then that is their loss.

They couldve made a profit of of my purchase, but chose not to.

Let me give you a non existant example.

My brother is dateing 3 girls at once. I may not approve of his lifestyle, but just because he does something I think is wrong, doesnt mean i will put him down and treat him as subhuman.

If you read anything, then read this.....

Any Christian who goes around teaching hate, and hateing, and mistreating someone because of their lifestyle, is not a true Christian.

A true Christian will treat all people with love dignity and kindness. They would treat a adulterer the same as they would a homosexual. A bi person the same as someone who shoplifts. They treat all people with love. They may not condone of a lifestyle, or a persons actions, but they would not treat someone with hate because they do something viewed as wrong.

A good example, i can give is this. My dog throws up if she drinks to much water. I dont go hateing her because she pukes every other day. Instead i still treat her with love, and just simply clean up the mess. I tolerate her action(dont just go and accept it, but tolerate it) and then will continue to give her belly rubs just the same regardless of whether she pukes or not.

But to the op(if the thread is seriously about the title topic)

No religion, would mean there would be no initiative to go and help others(people that you dont know.)
There would be little to truly define morals, and it would be harder to unite people.

Whether you like it or not, Religious people as a whole, tend to be more selfless, and giveing than non religious people.

Most of what religions are about is often twisted from what it is really about(ex christianity is about love peace and forgiveness. There are many Christians though, who do the exact opposite, and are taught the opposite)

blaming all your problems on one group or one idea and saying if x didn't exist all the world problems will be solved is wrong. and is a fanatic religious trait.

getting rid of religion will not do the world more good then getting rid of all black people or bisexual people. you will just have a world with the same problems just one group of people missing.

People say it's illogical to believe in god. But I say it's even more illogical to say all of this is a coincidence. Just look at how perfectly the planets are aligned. If we were too far from the Sun we'd all freeze to death if we were too close, we'd all get skin cancer. Or just be set ablaze. Even if his powers are exaggerated by religion. And some of the story's about him is made up. There has to be a god. Of course I don't believe in things like Adam and Eve cause that's impossible I can state why it is but I think it's common sense and unnecessary to do so. and also events like Noah's ark, etc. But w/e you get my point :)
