Cold war wouldn't even have happened if nukes weren't there. Both sides would just skip to mass scale invasions, like every other example in history.

But maybe what caused the "war" also stopped the beginning of WW3.

Yeah, and years afterwards the baby boom happened and we repopulated. A WWIII isn't going to last like 50 years. .-.

We wouldn't be completely anhiliated. But we'd be living like the East Germany, all torn down and shit. Except there would be shootings and looting everywhere.

WW3 would end. But WW4 would start. Then WW5, until governments and societies collapses.

That's a difficult one, because nukes certainly increased tensions, but our fear of them keeps them from being used.

Plus, to use a nuke would be viewed as a crime against humanity. America has taken a lot of heat from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in regarding the effects of the bombs.

It's not exactly peace. To be afraid is not at peace. We're simply holding guns at each other to keep ourselves from pulling the trigger.

Well, we're alive because of it. That can't be a bad thing.

So you are happy with it, even though you may live in fear of a crazy dictator who may trigger the end of the world? Sure, it works for now, but it only takes one idiot and the whole world could end as we know it. I'd much rather every country work together and support each other honestly with the thought of war far replaced with the thought of progression and tackling other crisis like global warming but that is purely idealistic and could never happen in practise because of human nature. Maybe it's the best method of peace that we, as humans, can successfully pull off?

What is worse. Living in fear, or actually have to fight to the death in battle?

It's one or the other.

No, it isn't one or the other. We've lived without nukes. Heck, we're doing it now. They're still there, but not in use. We're not about to commit nuclear homicide. We were then, but not now.

Non-likly... The U.S is probably the most feared out of all countries because we've never lost a war... EVER...

Yeah but also because you bombed another country with nuclear weapons without any real reason at that point. I don't want to hate or something. I like the USA but when it comes to this...

Back then, in WW1 and WW2, people were dying left and right. People were being drafted and sent to their deaths. People had their countries invaded and slautered. Entire societies were destablized due to conventional warfare.

How would World War Three have started? I'm confused here. The Cold War was the closest we ever got to having another World War and that was caused primarily by the threat of nuclear weapons.

You need to go study and learn what the hell you're talking about before you say it.
I'd give you the same advice too. Go read and research on why Cold War actually happened. It wasn't primarily on nukes, it was a war based on ideology. The Cold War was all based on communsim vs democray(more free market like capitalism). l0l little kiddie before you go bash someone else go and rethink what you've said.

Nukes are what making countries not want to go to WW3 cuz we'd all **** eachother up. So no point, the cold war is a good example of this.

Cold war was ideology based indeed, but without nukes, it would have quickly erupted to full scale war.

Perhaps they wanted to send a message out to the world, reminding them what true power is.

It worked. Nations everywhere were scared shitless.

I'm sorry, but last I checked we were talking about a hypothetical WW3, which would've been unrelated to those two. Did nukes keep us from war? Yes, but they're not peace keepers. As I said, it's like holding guns at each other to keep us from shooting. We just have to put our guns down. Back then we couldn't do that. Today we're managing it gradually.

In a standoff, the first to put the gun down gets shot.
