I completely agree that this debates especially on a forum that debates rarely settle with both sides agreeing and I am not trying to continue the debate first and for most. I'd like to throw in my last few cents, this comment isn't directed at anyone so I now begin; for a justu with so much hype surrounding it it is impossible to say it has no counter at all though it is an extremely powerful justu non the less. I am sure everyones heard that amaterasu "burns as hot as the sun" (quoted Mike because he mentions not mentioning the suns relation to amaterasu's burning) well if it did which i am not saying anyone has said it would without a doubt melt Garas sand without a problem but it didn't placing this into the hype/expression section. But according to the Second Data book The high temperature is like the sun. Well the data book can't be wrong can it?! Well this clearly removes it from the hype/expression section I put it under, but why didn't Gara's sand melt there maybe many explainations and the major one being logic doesn't apply to the narutoverse. Well if that is the case if logic doesn't apply anything is possible and the "A equals B B equals C therefore A equals C" logic also doesn't apply and the only actually way for anything to be true is for Kishi to state such and such is true bringing be to the final part of this comment is that if Kishi didn't say amaterasu doesn't have a counter then it must have a counter BUT WAIT theres more if logic doesn't apply and Kishi doesn't say anything on the matter we cannot say whether or not such and such is true by speculating the manga because what is there maybe there but whats not there may or may not be coming.

Shinra tensei or jiraiya's Fuka Hoin are not counter's

Amaterasu ignites the opponent when the eye focuses on you. Even though nagato because he is a sensor would be able to get the gist, amaterasu will still land on him, then he can use shinra tensei to blow it off.

Jiraiya's sealing isn't a counter either. If amaterasu lands on him. He then has to take out his scroll and perform the seals.

That isn't a counter either.

Dunno about you guys but when i hear counter i mean somebody who can evade it completely and not necessarily somebody who has a means to evade it after doing a bit of damage.

Also kabuto and zetsu both agree with.

Strength of the technique is that majority of high level ninja's do not have proper counters for it. Even Ai's counter with raiton no yoari isn't 100% counter because he got the gist from looking at sasuke's eyes something that was his fortune because if sasuke had used genjutsu and paralysed him, then used amaterasu after, he was done for.

To have a 100% counter you need to be a sensor and get the gist of the technique without looking at the opponent's eyes. Then the reaction time to evade it. 2 requirements that not even high level ninja's have.

There are other sub par counter s like bunshin's and some form of supplementary techniques though, like the kawarimi technique

The thread maker is correct actually.The only way to avoid any damage is by dodging.
People forget that Amatarasu is instant and only a few characters can actually dodge it.Yes Nagato can use shinra tensie, but the time it takes for him to fire another one is 5 secs which is way higher than Amatarasu's speed rate.
