I'm pretty sure Itachi was scared as hell to try and attack Tobi to take him out. He had the chance to many times but he never dared to. But I see some people say Itachi would stomp him. Hell, I don't even know how Itachi stands a chance against Tobi's S/T ninjutsu.

Rediculous its the other way around, tobi had plenty of chances to take itachi out but did not dare to attack cause he was scared shitless whereas itachi did not know enough about tobi to take the risk of attacking considering he was protecting konoha by preventing tobi from attacking. If tobi is so powerful he would have taken itachi out and proceded with his plans but did he nope he waited years and only when itachi was dead did he continue his plans WHY WAS THAT. Tobi feared Itachi's abilities & that's why he treated Itachi the way he did, as he admits this.

Itachi followed his own principles and duties as a shinobi of konaha and brother of Sasuke; like always he put his brother first so attacking Tobi is out of the question if he didn't want to blow his cover.

Why do people still use what Itachi said against him not being able to beat Jiraiya? Have you not read the manga? Its the same reason why Itachi didn't capture Naruto all those times he could have. He was protecting Konoha and trying not to start a war. During the PTS of Naruto, Itachi was made to seem like the bad guy and Kishi wanted everyone to believe he was. But when we get to the point in where we learn the truth about Itachi, we can look back and question a lot of things he said and did or not do. If Itachi was sworn to protect the Leaf then why would he even try to kill Jiraiya knowing how important he was to the village? Kisame questioned why they were running from him and Itachi clearly lied to Kisame. We all know for a fact that if Kisame and Itachi both fought Jiraiya in a 2v1 then Jiraiya would get mopped up.

How can jiraya stall him?
-Itachi can controll the summons with sharingan
-he doesnt sit and hide in sussano, but uses it for defence and kill shots
-the rinnegan is completely different from sharingan. sharingan lets you predict your opponent moves rinnegan doesnt.. plus he only fought 3 bodies

There was simply no point for Itachi to fight Tobi. All he wanted was for Sasuke to be stronger with Itachi's eyes and fight on the right path after sasuke accomplished his lifetime goal to kill him.

If they were to fight S/T wouldnt end Itachi. In 90% of fights when the enemy of Itachi strikes its always a clone. Itachi is known to find the opponents weaknesses. Izanagi would get countered from Izanagi. Itachi would lose in the end unless Yata's could do the job.

You can only combat a s/t technique with another s/t technique. Itachi has no way, literally no way to defeat Tobi. Genjutsu doesn't work on Tobi. Amaterasu doesn't work on Tobi. Itachi can caste Susano'o, but Tobi can just evade it until it disappears.
