I don't think you know how stories work, every aspect is plot and yeah he's weak, a specialist who can do any class of nen at 100%. Every Spider will have a hard time against him simple and plain.

Can someone fill me in on Pariston's role in all of this and how it ties into the election arc/ hunter exam? I have a vague idea of it but that's about it.

I don't see what's wrong with it, other than MS's inadequate & lengthy translations. The art is already amazing and will look even better with the volume release. With the latest volume, the art had noticeable improvements.

The attention to detail is just great

I do agree it'd be amazing if Madhouse picks this up again but that won't happen for a long time.

I am not saying the art is bad and all. But the story is so well done in the anime that the manga is just not able to cut it. The music. the moments where they think the voice actors all make it seem so great that I just can't hold in the manga xD

Also - The translation I read said 'Dark Continent - Fake' on the second map they showed with the Dark Sea to the East of it. What's that about? What do they mean fake?

Yeah that is the plan of the V5 and Hunters Association. They will take them to an island just on the outskirts of the dark continent and tell them that it was the dark continent. At least that was their plan.
