Just looking at the ground with byakugan eyes isn't the same as looking at the ground with regular eyes, if I just look at the ground I can't see the persons face, but with the byakugan the persons face is still in my field of vision, even if I'm not focusing on his eyes, his eyes are still in my vision.
When Gai focuses on Itachi's feet, he cannot see Itachi's eyes, they're not in his peripheral, but with the byakugan they would be

Also the fact that Kabuto blinded himself, and kept his eyes open to fight itachi implies that it's not about whether Itachi makes direct eye contant, but whether his opponent sees his sharingan, so if a Byakugan user closes his/her eye lids and still see's the sharingan using the byakugan, even through their eye lid, it should effect them.

eye contact is a 2 way street.

Both parties have to be looking into each other eyes directly for it to work, if not it can't be cast. Simple.

Also Whoever was saying kotoamatsukami wouldn't work, Danzo used it with bandages wrapped around his eye so seems like direct eyecontact isn't needed for that.

There's no evidence to suggest that a Byakugan user can see with his/her eyes shut, when they always fight with their eyes open.

there is evidence
did u forgot that they see 360º

So are we just not reading manga scans then? How you contradict yourself in your own post?

OT: everything you said was factual, any byakugan user bypasses it the same way kabuto bypassed it. Close your eyelids and use byakugan to see through them. Simple.

there's difference between eye contact and look .

Irrelevant. It doesn't matter if the Byakugan user can see the Sharingan's user's eyes, it matters if the Sharingan user can see the Byakugan user's eyes. It's a 2 way street, and it's been said over and over again that Genjutsu needs eye contact to work. If a Byakugan user can see a Sharingan user's eyes, but the latter can't see the former's eyes, Genjutsu won't work.

No, Kabuto's case was blocking Chakra from entering his eyes, same thing we're arguing with a Byakugan user closing their eyes here.

It needs look , not eye contact ; While you look at a Sharingan , you get caught in genjutsu .
