Orochimaru, who was dying and had no killing intent. Resisted the soul transfer and Orochimaru left.

Deidara, whom was about 9 years old and didn't know anything about Itachi or the Sharingan, while Itachi knew about Deidara's abilities and boxed him in a small room.

Kakashi, who fought fairly evenly against Itachi but mistakenly believed that his Sharingan would protect him from Tsukiyomi.

Kurenai, not a high-level character but came close to killing Itachi.

Sasuke, whom had a hard time against Deidara and admitted he only beat Orochimaru because he was dying.

Jiraiya, whom Itachi had no reason to lie about. Kisame doubted if Itachi was a match for Jiraiya and wanted to avoid going after Naruto, but Itachi insisted that he's Jiraiya's equal and went after Naruto despite Kisame's hesitations. If Itachi wanted an out, Kisame gave it to him, he didn't take it; there was no reason to lie.



It was called MS.

It's a double-edged sword that gave him great power at a price.

I always wonder why he called himself a failure.

because he blamed himself on the Uchiha Massacre happening. He believed in the end that with Sasuke he could have prevented it from happening obviously better than ending it via genocide. So just be turning to something as evil as genocide, he considers himself a failure. Then there's Sasuke. He taught Sasuke to hate some much so that Sasuke couldn't stop hating, so he transferred his hatred of Itachi to the hatred of the village, continuing the Curse of Hatred rather than ending it as planned. Of course, Sasuke is responsible for his own heinous actions but Itachi shares some the blame. Itachi also came to see his plan to mind-control Sasuke was wrong since it robbed him of free will. Itachi is one of the most powerful characters but he did much good but much evil also resulted for his actions. This is what makes Itachi a complex character.

No, Sasuke was born with the highest potential.

Sasuke always looked up to Itachi never able to exceed Itachi , even with all those efforts ...
Sasuke > Itachi Only in terms of strength and that is bcoz of Itachi.

The fact remains that most of the fights Itachi was in, he wasn't trying to kill the other person.

Guys Itachi has Fought:
Orochimaru(Genjutsu Win)
Deidara(Genjutsu Win)
Kakashi(Loyal to Leaf Village, easily could have killed him)
Kurenai(Loyal to Leaf Village)
Sasuke(Didn't want to kill his brother, Obito even said he would have killed him if he was trying)
Jiraya(Loyal to Leaf Village, lied and said he's too dangerous)

All would lost except Jiraiya, Being loyal to the leaf meant nothing there since Itachi's deal with Tobi was to leave Konoha alone but Jiraiya is not part of Konoha. Him, like the other Sannins severed their ties with Konoha and left, Oro as a missing ninja and Jiraiya and Tsunade honorably discharged for their services. Tsunade was the only Sannn who went back to Konoha, Jiraiya doesn't wear anything symbolizing him as a Konoha shinobi, his headband is that of the toad hermit. Also Kisame was with Itachi as well so if he didn't believe Itachi then he would have either kept fighting or report Itachi t the rest of Akatsuki.

Don't mistake Kisame doing what Itachi says as friendship or loyalty, he respects Itachi's power is all and they both killed their kinsmen so he thought they should be partner up. Kisame's flashback shows Kisame telling Itachi that he better watch his back and Itachi had his MS activated so this explains why Itachi always had his sharingan active, because of Kisame. Kisame knows Itachi's abilities enough to gauge his power so if he thought Jiraiya was so beneath Itachi's power or even both of their power then he wouldn't have followed Itachi's orders.

As for Kakashi, Guy, Kurenai, Asuma, he told Kisame not to fight because Guy stated that he notified the Anbu black opts who were on their way. Itachi already used 1 MS jutsu, his max is 3 MS jutsus before he's push himself to death (in Sasuke fight). Guy would hold off Itachi while Asuma holds off Kisame beforeback up came.

OT. His disease kept him from being at his full potential.

Itachi was Sasuke's benchmark... benchmarks get surpassed.

The manga is almost over, if Sasuke hasn't surpassed Itachi at this point then he'll never have the chance to... which means he has.

Let me start by saying that the manga states Sasuke has more potential.

Itachi grew up in a time of war and was forced to mature fast, Sasuke was not. Sharingan is awoken due to a life or death situation, which Itachi experienced at a younger age than Sasuke. The Sharingan and it's abilities also helped Itachi excel.

Obito was also a Chuunin by the time he was 13 and didn't need the Sharingan to accomplish that, and then became Jonin-level when he did awaken the Sharingan. That is the type of boost it provides the user, that is what it did for Itachi as well.

Madara was also killing Jonin-level Senju as a kid without the Sharingan, and he is considered the greatest Uchiha... Sasuke has the potential to surpass him.

Sasuke is a late-bloomer, he started later than the other three Uchihas but he's destined for more.
