Hashirama was also killed in the First War so someone stomped him or at least brought him to his limits then he died of exhaustion but its hard to believe the latter so most likely someone outright stomped him.

Just think about it, Tobirama died from some Cloud elite, they were mentioned.
Sarutobi's killer mentioned aswell, even shown.
