Senpou means sage art and you can see the markings on his face. He gathered energy while talking to Madara, just like how Jiraya gathered energy, by putting his hands together. The signs are there..

.....Are you serious? He's clearly in sage mode, you can even see his own unique sage mode markings on his face before he used that jutsu. Yea, it's a wood release jutsu, but it's also enhanced by sage mode (hence the "senpō" at the beginning of the jutsu's name). Do you know what sage mode is? If you did you would know that it enhances nearly all forms of jutsu, in this case hashirama's very own wood release. Much like how Naruto uses sage mode to enhance his rasengan jutsu's like "Senpō: Chōōdama Rasen Tarengan"....notice how narutos jutsu isn't just a rasengan jutsu, its a sage mode enhanced rasengan jutsu, hence the reason why there's a "Senpō" at the beginning, and hence the fact that Naruto has only used that jutsu whilst being in sage mode.
