I'd like to know everyone's opinion on if yugioh had been ruined by the current meta. All the decks that rely on the extra deck and all of the crazy "destroy whatever I want effects". I personally feel like the new meta takes the skill out of the game and majority of the decks are auto pilot. What do you think?

Yeah GX was the last yugioh that was good. I just feel like there is no skill in deck building anymore when all your cards stop all card effects and you can stop summons. Its like you're playing alone.

Welp, i'm giving it a second chance, been buying some of the newer cards and they're not all that good to be honest. Everything seems to be about these new cards called pendulum, xyz and synchro stuff wich i assume is like a mixture of fusion and ritual or some weird shit. Simple effects are now more complex and difficult to perform and most cards rely on others to be effective or even playable, like for example, you need this monster so you can summon this specific type so you can do this and that etc. It's just not the same anymore.

I could handle tuner monsters, I could even handle XYZ's, but when they introduced pendulum monsters is when I decided to quick. They honestly should go back to the basics and leave it alone.

Synchro Summons were okay. Xyz's were unneeded. Pendulums are retarded. As far as I can tell, nowadays a game is decided on the 2nd turn.

2nd turn already 4 2200+ att cards out
Konami realized this as well, and that's why they unbanned cards like Raigeki, Mirror Force and Crush Card. Sometimes, you can't do anything but activate a field cleaner to reset the ridiculous advantage some decks give.

The decks became too neat. Deck building isn't fun when every card fits into a category indicated by the name. The fun stopped a little for me when i'd get a booster pack and everything inside were overly specific spell and synchro cards that could not be used without all the other needlessly specific cards in that set.

There wasn't a lot of variety at that point. The game is still hella addicting and strategic, but my decks draw the line at early 5DS.

My deck right now is an Underdog deck (No monster has over 1000 ATK) and my Hamon / Machine Deck :)

It used to be about skill but now It's mainly about who can summon the most broken monster first. I still enjoy it but my interests are more geared towards hearthstone these days.

If you really wanna learn how to play Hearthstone like a pro then I recommend this guide It's the most in depth guide I've found, hopefully I can find a guide like this for yu gi oh to get me back in the swing or things relatively quick

Not at all.

It's just not the same as it was before. Wich is a good thing.

Games like YGO wich last for more than a decade MUST change in order to stay relevant, and interesting for that matter. The game, when looked objectively, is better than it ever was. It's more complex, more detailed and a lot more strategic than it ever was before.
Sure, these things came at a drastic change of pace and mechanics but the core is still the same, simply upgraded to stay fun and interesting.

Meta decks are indeed broken, but that's how they've always been. You think original was better? Cyber-Stein. Chaos. CardCrush.
You say you love GX? Monarchs, Gladiators, Lightsworns. 5D's? TeleDad and BW say hi.

The point is the competetive scene has pretty much stayed the same at its core. It simply scaled up along with the rest of the game as time went by.

I wouldn't say ruin, more like dead. But yeah it hasn't been good in a long time.
In no way is it dead, pal. It's going stronger than before.

Yeah GX was the last yugioh that was good. I just feel like there is no skill in deck building anymore when all your cards stop all card effects and you can stop summons. Its like you're playing alone.
What are you reffering to specifically?

Deckbuilding is still quite a challenge, that's if you wanna be original. People always net-decked and had cheap builds, ever since the original too.

You could argue that nowadays, its even harder to build a consistent deck as just 2-3 cards can screw up your strategy and cause a dead hand if you draw them at the wrong time.

Synergy and control have never been so important.

Well, it's not as good as before imo.
By good you mean what? Popularity?

On what are you basing this? The game has accumulated a massive following and its events are huge for a TCG game. It may seem like its popularity has gone down, but trust me it's not.

It's just that you don't see kids playing it in schools anymore. :p
