my current RP stats
doton, fuuton, raiton, mokutom - completed
Katon - S rank
youton - A rank
Suiton - B rank (damn Tosen never wants to get to it)
Genjutsu - B rank
Ninjutsu - D rank

my favourite element is mokuton, which is also my speciality.
I'm the current owner of the goshawk CS
I have a lightning cj a cs and a rubber cj

I wish to acquire Hashirama bio, because he's cool. but he's "on hold"
of course I'd like to have a jinchuuriki, or nagato bio or something

I really want to be better in strategies, tactics, combining jutsus

All of you seem to be progressing nicely, Tsuki you have slightly more training me xD

Alright, I've figured out how we're going to do this. I remember learning from Cobalt the same way, though I'll make slight changes to his method.

I've split our training into the following categories, tell me what you wish to start with. If you guys can't decide, I'd personally like to start with Logistics of a battle (since I haven't done it yet).

Categories:
-Basic Elemental combinations
-More Advanced Elemental Combinations (Basics must be done before this one)
-Logistics of a battle
-Countering/Releasing Genjutsu
-Freeform Taijutsu and Kenjutsu
-Making custom techniques
-Using summons and clones
-Battling types and characteristics (Cobalt's method)
-Taking advantage of the terrain

There is something to learn from all of these so it's really fine with me what we begin with.

Seems like majority wants to start with basic elemental combination so we can do that. Then we can continue with logistics of a battle since you want that :)

What catches my interest the most from the list you gave us is Freeform Taijutsu and Kenjutsu and Making custom techniques

With elemental combinations, its not only about fusing different jutsus in straight forward attack, but using them in effective ways which supplement your fighting style.

I assume you both know how the basic five elements interact with one another, but I'll go over it just in case.

Fire is stronger than Wind, the oxygen in the wind only seeks to fuel the heat of the flames.
Wind is stronger than Lightning, as its a natural insulator.
Lightning is stronger than Earth as it can pierce through it and cause it to crumble.
Earth is stronger than Water as it reduces the force of the waves as well as block them.
Water is stronger than Fire because it extinguishes the flames.

Now as you can see, some elements will be difficult to use together whilst others will flow together perfectly.

A few good elemental combinations are:
Water and Lightning. The water conducts the electricity, giving it a more lethal edge.

Fire and Lightning. My personal view on these elements is, that they simply "phase" through eachother, since they're both in plasma state. However, some people may disagree with you, ignore them and follow your sensei's way xD. But really, its best to be on the safe side and never use Fire to counter Lightning or vice versa. This doesn't mean Fire goes through Fire and Lightning goes through Lightning.

Lightning can block other lightning techniques of the same rank and below, and Fire can block Fire (of the same rank or below).

When I say elemental combinations, you have to realize what I mean by this. This simply means using two or more elements at the same time via clones/summons/a badass Kakuzu bio and etc. Unless you have Yin/Yang training, you can't use two elemental manipulations on your own. Neither can you fuse them into one element like a KG does. To do that, yep you guessed it, also requires Yin/Yang training. This means no red lightning or blue fire, I was disappointed too.

Here are some visual examples of elemental combinations:

Go to 5:55 for a Fire/Lightning combination.

Water/Lightning Combination

After reading this. I want you to give me your own example of one good elemental combination and one "bad" elemental combination. I want you to explain it fully.

This is straight-forward combinations, we'll come onto the more complicated stuff once you guys fully grasp the basics.

Just remember, using elemental combinations doesn't mean making Kekkei Genkai. Using Water and Lightning will create an electrified torrent of water not Storm Release.

good:
Fire and wind.
You can sent a strong fireball at the opponent and add a wind stream to it, the fire will become stronger because the oxygen will "feed the fire".
and let's say one of them is short-mid range, and your opponent is long range, and you really want to perform that jutsu on him, you can add the other element if it's a long range one, and the combo would also be long range

let's say you perform this jutsu:
(Katon: Gōka no Jutsu) - Fire Release: Hellfire Technique
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 30
Damage points: 60
Description: The user will manipulate their chakra and breath out from their mouth a large fireball that travels at the opponent. As it reaches the opponent it bursts into a maelstrom of fire engulfing them in flames.
the jutsu won't reach long range

but let's say add this jutsu to it:
Fūton: Atsugai) - Wind Style: Pressure Damage
Rank: A
Type:Attack
Range:Short-Long
Chakra Cost:30
Damage Points:60
Description: The user does the Ram handseal and inhales, kneading his chakra into his lungs, exhaling a huge blast of wind that levels anything in its path. Can cause major damage and requires a sufficient chakra level to perform. This large wind blast moves in tremendous speed and cannot be controlled. If the user gets caught in it, it will harm him also.
The jutsu will be a lot stronger!! and the fire'll reach Long range

to my opinion, pressure damage is the best wind jutsu to add to a fire jutsu, tho S rank (Fūton: Shinkū Taigyoku) – Wind Release: Vacuum Great Sphere is also great and awesome! but that jutsu is short-mid range, so it can't help you a short-mid range fire technique to make it long range

bad:
Lightning and wind.
Let's say you send a lightning bolt and a wind stream at the same time, the lightning won't make the wind stronger or vice versa, since the wind will just insulate the lightning bolt and the lightning bolt will even become weaker, or canceled out.
So let's say you use chidori senbon
(Raiton: Chidori Senbon) - Lightning Release: One Thousand Birds Needle
Rank: A
Type: Offense
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: 60
Description: The user reshapes the Chidori in their hand into the form of countless senbon. It has more specialized speed than the normal Chidori and can cause damage throughout multiple places on the body. Although it’s not stated, this technique probably takes on Chidori's characteristics such as its ability to cut through almost anything and numb parts of the body.
and you'll add pressure damage to it, the wind won't become stronger, and infact the lightning would be canceled out by your own jutsu and the wind will be D rank

tho, I still don't understand how to use earth as combos, except mud with water jutsus

Fire/Earth:

Fire and Earth can make useful combos if combined correctly. Though since "solid" earth techniques would probably block fire techniques (I guess that's what we can call a bad combination), it is more useful to combine fire with a... "mud-like" earth jutsu.

Techniques such as Swamp of the underworld which are mainly used to immobilize the target would be nice to combine with fire. The fire can warm up the mud and/or erupt from underneath the ground, causing the mud to not only immobilize the target, but also causing additional damage. Using a fire jutsu from the sky above or maybe even some pillars of fire to surround the target while they are standing on mud might be useful imo.

Well now that I think of it, I can maybe consider fire/earth combinations to be "bad" ones although I find them to be useful from time to time.

Wind/Fire
:

Fire "feeds" on oxygen so having a wind technique will help to increase its damage. Jutsus such as Pressure Damage will cause much greater destruction and can even cause a small fire to turn into a much larger one.
That combination will be capable of causing explosions.

We can also use both technique to attack different locations but make sure that they get in contact at the end so that we still benefit from the combo.

(sorry I rushed a bit with the fire/wind part >.< )

Ok lets see.

Fuuton and Katon:

The Fuuton justu called (Fūton: Kami Oroshi) - Wind Release: Godly Wind From The Mountain, can be used in conjuction with Fire Release: Running Fire to augment it by increasing its range and strength thus creating a massive inferno. This makes it more powerful than when the jutsu are used alone. The oxygen in the wind makes the fire stronger, thus, the Katon jutsu has to be used first. This is a great example of elemental combinations.

Raiton and Fuuton

These two combinations, being together,is a "bad" one.The Raiton is strong against the Fuuton, and the Fuuton weak against Raiton. This means,if I were to use a Raiton jutsu first, and follow it up with a Fuuton jutsu,it would weaken the jutsu rather than make it stronger. The jutsu would downgrade in rank,if they were used together. This is a bad example of elemental combinations.

# Being new the RP,I am not so good..yet.Thus,my explanations are not as detailed as my fellow partners xD

Alright, pretty good analysis from all of you, though you guys should of picked different combinations xD

To consolidate on basic elemental combinations, here's the list of good ones and the list of less effective ones.

Useful combinations:
Fire and Wind
Water and Wind
Earth and Fire
Fire and Lightning
Water and Lightning

Neutral combinations:
Earth and Wind

Ineffective combinations:
Wind and Lightning
Fire and Water
Earth and Lightning

Alright, for the following basic 5 combinations, I want you to explain why each of the combinations is in the following categories, if you would use them in battle and how you would use them (include the method e.g. clones/summons/etc).

Furthermore, these categories are very broad and so don't stick too strictly to them. Water and Lightning is a terrible tactic if you're streaming water from your mouth since the electricity will conduct straight into your body killing you. Its also a bad tactic to use if the lightning comes into contact with any water you're standing on. If you ever use lightning whilst on a water source, make sure it doesn't touch the water or that you jump when you fire it, so there's no way it can conduct into your body.

Wind and Lightning is another weird one. When you use two jutsus in the same direction, they don't really have the same effect as when they're opposing eachother. The wind might not insulate the lightning depending on the type of jutsu used. But then again, they could cancel eachother out. When you use this type of combination its much safer to make sure the wind and lightning don't make contact with eachother whatsoever. I don't really use this combination since its almost useless xD.

Fire and Water can be a good elemental combination. Discuss amongst yourselves what I mean by this.

Useful combinations:
¤ Fire and wind
This is denitely a useful combination. Just as I said above, the wind feeds the fire with oxygen and it grows stronger! I'd probably use this when I sent a fireball, I'd add wind pressure to it, to increase the strength and to increase the range. I'd definitely use this combo. If I'll learn kage buinshin but I'll have a summon soon that is able to use wind, and for team battles
¤ Water and Wind
This is also a cool combo I can perform with my wood clone. I can let my wood clone create a wave of water, and I'll send a wind wave to strengthen it and to increase the range. Or I'll blow a wind stream, and I'd have my clone blowing a water stream at the same time and a cool water/wind stream will be send at the opponent.
¤ Earth and Fire
There are not many of them, but let's say you send multiple earth bullets at the opponent, and your clone blows a fire ball/stream at the same time, the earth bullets could be lightened up and be hot and they could deal more damage
¤ Fire and Lightning
This is also a cool combo, I can't perform :( I don't have kage buinshin yet, nor a summon that can perform fire/lightning. I can only perform it in a team battle. But just as you posted above, you can send a strong and large fire stream, and at the same time a clone/friend a lightning burst, combining with the fire. Luckily enough they won't cancel eachother out, they're both in a plasma state. It'll deal a lot of damage!
¤ Water and Lightning
I can perform this with my wood clone, but there's no need for doing this at the same time. You could also first soak somebody and after that electrify him. But you could sand a water stream at the opponent and release a lightning bolt/burst into the water and kinda fck up the opponent

Neutral combinations:

¤Earth and Wind
not a cool combo. This is only useful for sand , dust particles, strengthen mud waves etc. I can perform this with a mokuton clone

Ineffective combinations:
¤Wind and Lightning
Let's say you send a lightning bolt and a wind stream at the same time, the lightning won't make the wind stronger or vice versa, since the wind will just insulate the lightning bolt and the lightning bolt will even become weaker, or canceled out.

¤Fire and Water
This would be cool to create a steam effect and block the vision of your opponent, but this isn't very effective. let's say you send a fire stream, and you'll add a water stream. The water could cool the fire down a bit and extinguish it, while the water will also be evaporated a little bit

¤Earth and Lightning
I can't even see how to combine these, If you send lightning through earth, the earth structure would probably just break and the earth will crumble..

Not really a fan of clones and summons yet so most of my combinations are only done without any support.

Useful combinations:

Fire and Wind:
This combination is in this category because Fire and Wind complement eachother. Wind helps the fire to get stronger and maybe even faster while fire would cause more damage.
I would definitly use this combination in battle as I clearly see its benefits. However I would mostly use it for point-blank attacks or maybe releasing a wind jutsu towards a location in which fire would erupt from.

Water and Wind:
The combination of Water and Wind is in this category because these elements doesn't weaken eachother and they would actually make a more effective attack. Wind can be used to give more slicing power to the water and also increase its speed, which means that wind, once again, will be the one supporting the other element.
I've never had the chance to use this combination before but I can see its potential. Using clones with this one would be a good idea (water clone for the time being), a summoning that can use water or wind would also be great.

Earth and Fire:
Earth and Fire conbination is in this category because these 2 elements can blend together to form a stronger attack. Fire can possibly melt the earth and form lava allowing it to become less solid than what it was before.
I'd personally combine Fire with an Earth technique that is not fully 'solid' (mainly thinking of Mud-like earth techniques).

Fire and Lightning:
As I see it, Fire and Lightning normally do not "get in contact" with eachother and can go through eachother while at the same time cause great damage. This is why I think it is in this category.
Fire is slower than lightning and so for such combination I would always begin with the fire which will prevent the opponent from seeing me and then quickly continue with a lightning attack. The lightning attack will go through the fire and suddenly appear in front of the opponent who will have some hard time reacting to this attack. Normally one would use water to cancel the fire but with lightning getting in contact with the water, it would electrocute the opponent.

Water and Lightning:
Definitly in this category, water conducts lightning which allows the user to send his lightning attack in a trickier manner.
I would use the water technique succeeded by a lightning one, or at least make the opponent have some water on himself so that my lightning technique would be more effective (Rain + lightning bolts from the sky would be cool).

Neutral combinations:

Earth and Wind:
This one is categorised in this category because (imo) the only way this could be used together is by having wind transporting earth.
I don't think I would ever use this.

Ineffective combinations:

Wind and Lightning:
Lightning weakens with strong wind and so it is an ineffective combination.
The way I see it is that the lightning technique would become an unfocused one (kinda like nagashi) so if you want a gust of wind that electrifies/numbs the opponents then I guess one could use such a thing.

Fire and Water:
Water takes the oxygen away from the fire which will weaken the fire while fire will make water evaporate.
This combination forms steam which could be used in order to limit the field of vision but also making very warm streams of water that would burn the target upon impact. Would personally avoid using it but I like it more than the earth/wind combination.

Earth and Lightning:
Lightnining breaks earth and/more makes it crumble so this is an ineffective combination.
The only way I would use such combination is if the lightning and earth techniques do not touch eachother. As in (for example) lightning rotating around stone... meh xD

Useful Combinations

Fire and Wind

A common combination, where the wind increase the fire's power and strength,by adding oxygen to it.As the wind contains a lot of oxygen, which supports combustion, the result is BOOM!!! The way in which this combination would be used is to first use a relative large fire jutsu, and quickly after, follow it up with a wind jutsu. This can be done at mid range to allow both jutsu to mix,and become an explosive cocktail. This can be done alone if you use kage bunshin,or if you have a summon like Jiraiya had, that can use Katon.A Kakuzu bio would be able to use many combinations effectively due to his masks.

Water and Wind

In this combination, the wind augments the water,by increasing its cutting capability. The wind enhances the speed of the water, making it fast. The water is then able to cut through certain things. This makes an already powerful water jutsu, even more deadly.Imagine a torrent of water,as it hits you with its destructive power,it also cuts you when the wind is added.Truly,a remarkable combo, then can destroy the greatest of opponents. This combo would be awesome,if done with a partner,at a water source.A lot of water plus cutting power equals overkill!!! Can be done using a clone, who will perform the water jutsu and I use the wind jutsu.

Earth and Fire

From what I have seen, earth jutsu can be used to put the opponent in an unescapable dome, and then cooking him alive inside it!! The dome would block in the oxygen, making it like a coffin, then add extreme heat and bam!! you have a cooked shinobi. Not only a dome, but also a tunnel like structure closed at one side and fire from the other.Truly a gruesome technique.Could be used alone if you were to first trap, then cook the opponent.

Fire and Lightning

Never actually seen this before, but let me improvise. The fire could be used as a distraction while you prepare you lightning. So while the opponent is distracted by the fire, you use a quick lightning jutsu right through the fire.As the opponent cant see it,they will be struck OR you use a fire jutsu to press the opponent into a tight corner, then strike them with lightning as they have nowhere to go.This is what I THINK,first time hearing about this combo xD The clone could use the fire jutsu, and I would follow up,using the lightning

Water and Lightning

Also,a well known combo. The user will first use a water jutsu to create a puddle under the enemy, then use a lightning jutsu to electrocute them.Naturally,if you put a live wire containing electricity into water, you would be electrocuted, the same applies here.If you are in contact with the water that becomes charged with lightning,it bye-bye (as stated by NK).Now this combo is truly powerful due to the range in which it travels and its strength. Can be done alone if at a water source, and or use a clone if not.

Neutral Combinations

Earth and Wind

Another weird one. These two elements wont augment each other,if you use an earth jutsu and then in conjuction with a wind jutsu, the earth wont gain any noticeable changes.I could be completely wrong,as I just cant think of a way they would be of any help to each other ._. With a partner or a summon to perform this combo

Ineffective Combinations

Wind and Lightning

Naturally, this combo would be ineffective due to elemental strengths and weaknesses.Lightning is weak against wind,so if used together,it would not make the jutsu stronger. It would probably decrease in terms of rank and power, and also be worthless against a strong opponent. This would be a waste of two of the three jutsu you can perform per turn and would leave you vulnerable, thus making it truly ineffective.

Fire and Water

Another case of elemental strengths and weakness. We all know, fire is weak against water.Using them together would be a total waste of chakra. They would negate and become extremely weak.A very ineffective combo indeed.

Earth and Lightning

Firstly,if used together the lightning would crumble the earth,as it is weak against it.So combining these two, wouldnt make any sense.

Alright, mostly correct but I'll go over a few things to make them solid in your mind.

1) Earth and Fire combination.
This won't always make molten-mud or a lava like substance, it really depends on how you use it. Mud-based doton techniques and Fire techniques will definitely make pseudo-lava. However, if you're combining solid rock techniques with flames, you have to make sure you use them in conjunction and not against eachother e.g. I shoot a rock dragon at my opponent before heating it up with the same rank of flames.

If you're trying to make molten mud, make sure both your Earth technique and your Fire technique are of the same rank e.g. Both A-Rank.

2) Water and Fire combination
Like you all correctly said, this could prove to be a very useful combo. The heat of the flames would cause this to become gaseous water (steam) which you can use to your advantage. It can be used for cover to hide your presence, to singe/burn the opponent on contact and so on. If your opponent has some way of sensing/seeing you but you can't sense/see them, clear the mist with a wide wind technique. It will passively clear the mist as well as attack your opponent, making it a win-win situation.

3) Wind/Lightning, Earth/Wind and Earth/Lightning combinations.
Yeah, they're not the most useful, unless you find a way to make these combinations supplement your fighting style, I recommend avoiding these xD.

4) Water/Wind and Fire/Wind combination
If you're continuously streaming any of these techniques (e.g. a torrent of water gushing from your mouth), you definitely need a clone/summon to use the other technique. Also, make sure the jutsus you will help eachother instead of hindering one another. What I mean by this is, using a wave of water with slicing blades of wind won't do you any good. However, using a stream of wind will augment the speed and force at which the water technique will travel. If your stream of wind is too destructive or uncontrollable, chances are it will disperse your water technique or just make it weaker in general. Overall, I find using a S-Rank Water better than using a S-Rank Water/Wind. In the same way, a S-Rank Fire is better than using a S-Rank Fire/Wind. They're still equal in power, I just find them easier and quicker to use in battles compared to combination jutsus.

Once you read all of this, we're going to go onto more advanced elemental combinations.
