His fruit is what is creating strings on the ground because his DF became part of the area. He could never just create strings out of rocks out of nowhere unless his DF transformed the ground to be able to make string just like it enabled his body to make strings when he ate it. It's not made up, it's the only sensible explanation.

Luffy won't turn the ground into rubber, the ground will "eat" the DF to become rubber like Luffy did, that's what awakening is. Your DF ability goes into your surroundings and lets you control it like an extension of your body.

You made literally all of that up.

I really doubt a Gear 5th will happen. It would be kind of cheesy to have so many ''modes''.

Instead I think there will be variations on Gear 4th since this form we've seen now was called Boundman. But maybe there will be Jetman or Giantman or who knows what. That each of those modes enhance one of Luffy's stats like crazy, but at the cost of a drawback when he's done.

In that case you can still kind of justify that Gear 2 and 3 are basically his speed and power and 4 is more an arsenal or Luffy's 'rumble points'.

It doesn't necessarily mean that any gear makes the previous one useless. That was the case with super saiyains though and I hope Oda would steer clear from that.

I dont think there will be electric Luffy. I am more inclined to One World theory of Luffy awakening and covering his entire body in rubber armour to hit much harder

What if instead of turning the environment rubber Luffy has a designated radius in Awakened mode where anything that enters becomes rubber. Any punches or sword slashes that come within the radius become like rubber throwing off the attacker.
I never said it was great but it's something a little different. Or what if his awakened state is simply the ability to extrapolate his gears, faster gear 2 to keep up(or close to) with Kizaru/Rayleigh types, bigger Gear 3 for more area and damage etc.
