I think both are important and while we can't be perfect in attaining either of them, we should continue to strive towards them.

Ooh, I thought of a better analogy:

I'm sure a caged bird would rather be outside with all those dangerous animals than locked safe in a cage.

How does that sound?

I honestly I'd choose equality any day. The very existence of law, order, nature and most of all morality prevents such a things as "freedom". The meaning of "freedom" can be very subjective depending on your own standard but, even if somehow create it,having it limited to only a type or two of people is disgusting enough for me to refuse having it in the first place. What's even worse is that people would make levels for the amount of freedom you own depending on what you are which is even more disgusting than my previous thought.

Because equality is an absolute freedom is subjective
How is it subjective? If everyone has equal opportunity and starts out on equal footing, that's equality right there. Not to say there aren't problems with that view, but there are problems with 100% freedom as well.

So is freedom though. At least, I'd not like to live in a land where murder and rape is allowed.

Yes both are unattainable but equality is more unrealistic, equality is a lie we tell ourselves to comfort the disadvantaged, there are lands where rape and murder are tolerated we just don't hear about them much.

Hmm, this is a harder question than I thought. True freedom means not being oppressed. If nobody is being oppressed doesn't that mean that's equality?

I guess in worst case scenarios, equality can mean being treated like cattle while the worst thing with freedom is not having enough power which would just mean you're oppressed anyways. They're essentially the same thing.

Better to die free as a starved wolf than live in a cage

Jeez..

Thats the age old question answered multiple times and yet still being fought.

Even celestial beings still wonder such things.

God = order Devil = freedom.

However humans tend to go to the extremes.

Order becomes oppression and freedom becomes anarchy.

The only peace is solidarity which is achievable by eliminating everything and everyone. Thus going back to nothingness, the void. The time where God has yet to create himself (or herself)

Difference being the cattle will be caged forever, where as those who choose freedom have noone but themselves to blame for their own failure

But with complete freedom you have the ability to oppress a group of people and force their failure.

I would Choose equality depending on how and what people consider it to be. There is alot of things wrong with some people's concept of it.

Darwinism is a fact of life. In the reaching for equality the power ends up corrupting those imposing it anyway

In worst case equality scenarios, we'd be oppressed by the system completely.

In worst case freedom scenarios we'd be oppressed by gangs and militias completely. Also if murder is allowed, that's oppression as it's oppressing the right to live, and if murder is not allowed, then it's not true freedom.

It all ends up with the same BS.

Better to die free as a starved wolf than live in a cage
This is why you're the cunning linguist and I'm not, lol.

Yeah but we're humans so we'll just go like f*ck Darwinism and team up for our own benefits.

That isn't achievable. Notice that form of equality doesn't adversly affect anyones freedom to watch the game. Notice we are looking on as some sentient being, viewing this equality. Who is gonna enforce this in real life? The gov't?

"โ€œA society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.โ€

OP, I take it that you know of this saying and believe it?

They're not exclusive. I could say freedom encompases equality, the freedom to be yourself, you know.

@Slim, why limit freedom to one specific political groups vision of freedom, but not limit equality to another groups vision of equality? Why not adopt the black panthers vision of equality :lol?

What you're thinking of is anarchy. Where there are no laws. That's not what the OP meant. It's a sense of personal freedom that isn't achievable with the way the governments have society locked down. Nothing to do with abolishing all law.
