Has anyone here ever taught of dropping out of high school or college or did anyone drop out? If so why and what were the challanges you faced? Did you dropout to pursue a passion eg music dancing etc?
Why do you ask this? Is it because you are considering dropping out?
Anyways, I DID drop out of college.
What I did is I went to a community college in a completely different city. I got a job and usually got off work around 1230-1am.
At first I was fine. But in my second semester, it began to take its toll. I just wasnt able to have the will to get up to my alarm. Eventually it got to the point, where I would sleep through my alarms entirely(as in literally not be woken up at all), all 4-6 of them. Then by the time I got to spring break, there was just nothing I could do. I literally had missed too many classes, for me to have any chance at all of passing.(at least with my self discipline being as poor as it was then). So I just quit. There was just no reason for me to continue at this point.
Probably the only reason I quit though, was for 3 things. 1. My self discipline became complete crap. 2. I was taking general college classes, and had absolutely zero idea what I wanted to major in. 3. College unlike highschool, you can just go back any time, and finish without any ill effects. Also college is not mandatory to get a decent job. Only for a good career.
The only reason at all, that I quit, instead of going to the teachers and working something out, is because I knew I did not have the self discipline to follow through.
And to further explain my situation, it wasnt even like I was struggling very hard in college classes. It was literally poor self discipline(over sleeping), and zero motivation(due to having no idea of a direction to move in) that caused me to have bad attendance(not intentionally).
Also in high school, I easily, with minimal effort got honor roll. I wouldve gotten star roll, if I simply did not procrastinate on homework. Or if I simply studied(I rarely did so). I did all this while taking honors and AP classes, as I was able to. I got a 26 on the ACT the first and only time I took it in my junior year of high school(and yep I didnt study), and I scored in the 93rd percentile on the ASVAB(a military qualifications test(the score means that I qualify for pretty much any job I would want, If I joined the Armed forces(army navy etc).
Of those who took the ASVAB(a large amount of my class), I do not know of anyone who scored higher than me at my school.
So the point of all this is to show, that it wasnt like im a dimwit or anything. I wasnt really a slacker either. I just had some bad habits that I did not discipline myself to eliminate before they became problems.
I do not regret my decision to drop out that much. However I greatly regret that I did not put the effort into doing what needed to be done regardless of how little I felt like doing it. If I were once again in the same or a similar scenario, I would not drop out again. I would go talk to the teachers, and do what I could to get credits on the courses. I would not just quit.
My advice though is simply dont quit. You have spent most of your life in school. It would be a waste to just stop now after you have come so far. You might as well just finish the race, and get it over with.
I definately think you should at least finish High School. I would never drop out of high school no matter what.
