I disagree 100 % Kakashi wouldnt have 1000 jutsu without the sharingan thats why they call him the COPY NINJA :NO:. Gai has more then two strong attacks . His taijutsu alone is very dangerous . Not to mention his gates give him speed that cant be tracked by the human eye . Gai is on kakashi level . You can make a point kakashi is smarter . But gai character is kind of for comic relief . He can be very serious when its needed . dont underestimate the taijutsu master !

kakashi can open first gate at least and he has sharingan's noting skills

Without his Sharingan Kakashi is still a strong shinobi, sure. He would not have over 1000 justsu, as it was the sharingan that allowed him to observe and use these jutsu in the first place. He would not be able to use chidori, but he could still use lightning clones, as well as long ranged lightning attacks like he did against Pain.

I might put him on the same level as Asuma, Yamato, and Kurenai without his sharingan.

Kakashi is stronger, only because of his sharingan though. Kakashi's fighting style and copying abilities are because of the sharingan. The only way I see Kakashi handling gates is by copying the tech, putting him in the same level as gai, but still being able to use raikiri and other techs.

we should compare between their powers
for example
kakashi has kamui and use it well now ,he used it before kuarma chkara 6 times with 6 raiki,2 light chain,shadow clones,earth jutus,sharingan all time
in the other hand ,gai has hiudora and he can use it one time only in a fight

notene kamui >>one hiudora (can you compare more than 6 kamui with one hiudura??!!)

yes gai is clearly stronger than kakashi without sharingan ,but kakashi with kamui and sharingan is clearly stronger than gai

i don't think 1000 jutus is D rank because simply kakashi opens sharingan against top ninja not fodder ,(kakashi said he would open his sharingan when he fought zabuza for the first time because he is strong ninja)
