The fights have some cool moments and Vegeta is a nice character, but overall, yes, DBZ is bad. The story is boring and doesn't even make sense most of the time. If I'd have to mention the good aspects, I'd say they were:
- Goku going SSJ for the first time
- Vegeta's respect speech at the end of the Boo-saga
- Goku going SSJ for the first time

Yepyep, just one more aspect that the two series share with each other.

I need to go back and rewatch Dragon Ball/Z to be sure, but if we're strictly talking anime, Dragon Ball/Z seemed to have consistently good animation, and there were less people arguing about how the characters were being developed. And DB/Z did have character development. I don't remember much bashing, generally every main character had a fanbase and was at least considered cool. The soundtrack was solid, the voice acting was decent. The settings were interesting. The battles were suitably hyped. Goku and Vegeta's rivalry is one of the legendary rivalries of pop fiction, never mind anime.
Filler city in DBZ, but that's not an uncommon feature of modern anime, especially long-runners.
At the very least, it's not a crap anime. It holds up today, especially among long-runners. And contemporary long-runners owe a lot of their tropes to DBZ anyway.

I like Fairy Tail, Naruto, DBZ, Full Metal Alchemist, YuYu Hakasho etc.
But of course you won't talk about those since all you see is Fairy Tail.
Naw its past its sell date. Deserves to live on as part of history. For its time it was one of the best action anime. But since than many anime have evolved from that point. We are now seeing more competition in story. Comicial shows like that are taken less seriously.
Edit: Also for all of you who are crediting DBZ for todays anime. DBZ itself was not all original. It took inspiration from Superman and Astro boy. Taking inspiration out of something does not discredit the inspired work. So calm down on your praises for such series.

Like I said I don't watch it so I don't have an opinion on it. If its being milked its not my problem. Atleast its fandom is not run by nostolgic fans who end up getting a boner when they hear the name of One Piece.
