It is just in my head... The movie is about the number 23 appearing everywhere, so it must have some kind of meaning.
I personally believe people are just forcing it to exist everywhere it doesn't really you just make excuses for it, you can probably do the same for number 99 or something.

In every conflict, there are people from minor part of countries, who despite the fact their minorty is in conflict against the official state, they decide to side with the authorities rather than their clan / tribe / race / ethnic group.

There are a lot of reason as : personal interest, fear, pragmatism, ideology, disdain against people from his own race/ culture, nationalism / patriotism.

For Itachi, it is nationalism. He loved Konoha, more than his own clan. So he sided with Konoha.

Good or not, it's depend of your point of view and the context.

After he saw that Shisui failed because of Danzo, there weren't any hope to re-establish peace, the clash between Konoha and the clan had to happen. So Itachi accepted the mission Danzo gave him, at the condition that Sasuke is spared. Itachi could negociate.

Itachi prefered to massacre the clan with his condition to spare Sasuke, than let the clan provoke a civil war in which Sasuke could die as casualty.

+ If I am not wrong, Itachi prefered that his clan should be massacred by a uchiha pure blood, than a stranger. It is a question of honor.

u r overthinking it...cuz there are plotholes in uchiha massacre that u havvn't noticed yet....for exenple..let me ask you why would masked tobi help itachi wipe out uchiha clan..Bobito had no reason to do it..but madara had...

There are three reasons :

- Masked Obito acted exactly like Madara, he even copied his voice. Madara hated the Uchiha clan because they didn't follow him. To Madara, the uchiha massacre is ironic, they deserve this because they have been fooled by Konoha.

- Obito was nihilistic. So he didn't care about the Uchiha clan, after Rin's death, he lost any compassion for the world. Masked Obito himself said that he was a "hollow shell", he was nobody, none emotion, none personnality.

- The massacre of the clan permited to Obito to have a good collection of Sharingan, useful in the case he had to lose some Sharingan after to have used Izanagi for example.
