leaning more towards kantian than utilitarian.

as long as the subject still deserves human rights and dignity i think we should try not to violate them. however, that decision would be dangerously subjective and controversial. come to think of it, sharingans are such useful tools...

Depends entirely on the scenario and context. Fiction is fiction. But for real life, it can only go so far. I wouldn't say it's entirely justifiable (though it is understandable) and can be used in cases involving life-death situations with criminals/suspects.

So basically, you believe torture is wrong no matter what the circumstance.

When do you think it could be justified?

no. only so long as alternatives are available. I have elaborated my view in my first post too

Huh never thought about this much. I suppose for vital information that could save lives, then yes. For example, I think torturing a terrorist to get the location of a bomb, or the details of an attack, etc. is justified.

My thoughts exactly.

Always justifiable.

And if it turns out they don't know anything then at least you have pleasurable time.

In China that had a practice to take a thin glass rod place it inside the urethra of a rapist and shatter it. I approve of that :|

If it leads to intelligence that can save lives or other important things, then sure. Otherwise, no.

No, you can't fight the beast by becoming the beast. It may seem justifiable at times but it never, ever is, society has gone backwards, once we sort to eradicate this, now we live in a society where kids deems it justifiable.

Torture is wrong and unreliable, even if someone gives you information under torture there is not way to tell if it is true.

Say for instance there is a bomb in a school, you use electrocution to torture someone who may or may not know what school it is, he tell you under torture that the school is in Manchester, when he actually may not know or may be lying and its in London, how do you know?

History is littered with false confessions and dubious info obtained under torture and the whole time you are torturing someone, it could be spent in intelligence where you are much more likely to get the right information.

When the people who are supposed to be the good guys use torture, then how can we tell the difference? Condone it for one and you condone it for everyone, you condone what the Nazi's did, you condone what the Japanese military did during WW2, you condone all the countries in the world that violate human rights through torture, you cannot condone it for one thing and villainize it for another.

Then there is the language barrier, Two Pakistani men went to Pakistan to visit there family, there was a terrorist attack and they where picked up and taken away even though they had nothing to do with it. They ended up in Guantanamo bay. They told a story about an old man. He was in the cell next door and they were torturing him with water, he kept saying he didn't know why he was there, but the translator was saying that he was saying he wouldn't tell them anything and was shouting insults.

Even the guard admitted this sort of thing happened. I saw this on a BBC documentary, or perhaps Sky news, it doesn't matter.

Torture is like animal testing, completely inaccurate and pointless but sold to the public as a necessary evil because it cuts costs and gets you know where while looking like you are doing something.

I don't, as much a despise rapists, cruelty is cruelty and you have no high horse if you are as cruel as the monster you seek to punish.
