She definitely had more involvement and the Uchiha/Senju/Hyuuga symmetry is nice. The real matter is that the Team 7 dynamic of obnoxious unexplored love triangle never appealed to me remotely. Tbf though anybody would be better than Hinata or Sakura. Their personalities in the main series are paper-thin.

I always thought Tenten would've made a great female lead. Pretty but a bit tomboyish and had a mutual respect for Sasuke and a brotherly begrudging love for idiot kid Naruto perhaps with a bit of tsundere subtlety rather than "THE POWER OF A MAIDEN'S LOVE" nonsense Sakura spouted. Both Hinata and Sakura are male-servicing Mary Sues.
