Health

The health system is totally off the scale when you compare it to the originals.
In my opinion, this ain't such a bad touch to the game!
Some may whine about progress but this IS a totally a new game and it should have totally new features.
I can't wait to see this new system in action :)

In Diablo III, your health -- your hero's remaining life energy -- is indicated by a blood-red orb near the bottom of the screen. As the spawn of the Burning Hells assault your avatar, liquid drains from the orb: slowly against the flimsy swords of skeletal warriors, and quickly before the razor-sharp fangs and claws of ferocious demons.

As long as there's some liquid left in your health orb, you cling to life. But when the last crimson drop is gone, so too are you.

Diablo III's health system is designed to keep you thinking on your feet and rushing toward the next fight. As a hero struggling against the sinister forces of the Burning Hells, fleeing from battle to recover your strength isn't an option. To avoid dying a gruesome death, you'll need to hunt for ways to keep up your strength.

You can find or purchase healing potions, but they are moderately rare and limited by a cooldown: multiple potions can't be used in rapid succession in the middle of a fight.

You must be registered for see images

You might have a class skill that can help you regain health, but health-restoration skills are specialized, require careful play, and usually incur consequences.

Potions and skills offer excellent boosts to your health, but to survive multiple battles, you'll need to use them alongside a more reliable, renewable means of recovery.

That's where health globes -- floating, crimson spheres that rise from the corpses of your defeated foes -- come in. These globes are the core means of regenerating your health in Diablo III, and all other methods of healing support them. When you pick up a health globe, your health (and the health of any allies in your party) is restored by a fixed percentage depending on the type of globe you've grabbed.

Each time you slay a "regular" enemy, whether a rabid demon or a crazed cultist, there's a good chance (but not 100%) that a weak health globe will appear. Although weak globes emerge more frequently than other types of health globes, they restore the smallest percentage of your health.

You must be registered for see images

When you do battle with stronger foes, like "rare" and "champion" monsters, you're likely to see medium-sized health globes emerge before these monsters are killed, as they reach certain health percentages or are stripped of their defenses. Medium globes restore a sizeable percentage of your health, but you'll need the extra boost to survive when dealing with these formidable enemies.

Major boss fights make unique use of health globes. Each boss battle includes a custom-designed means of utilizing these globes to regain health. For example, in one fight, you might have to split your attention between weakening a dangerous boss and slaying its irritating but ultimately less-dangerous minions in order to get enough health globes to stay standing. In another fight, the boss itself might drop health globes when it takes damage, or you might have to hunt for hidden caches of globes in the midst of battle.

You must be registered for see images

Health globes drive Diablo III's tactical combat, making your lightning-fast decisions during battle intellectually engaging and relevant without adding needless complexity. If you're injured and attacking monsters from afar to avoid further damage, but a much-needed health globe drops, what will you do? Will you put your wand away and make a dash for it, even if doing so requires you to brave a gauntlet of Fallen, or will you cautiously hang back and wait for an opening, fighting defensively so that you aren't overwhelmed? If you're fighting a pack of enemies, can you slaughter the weaker ones quickly enough to saturate the battlefield with health globes so that you'll survive more dangerous attacks? Will you take the right risks at the right time?

You need to stay alive, or Sanctuary is doomed.

When it comes to PvP in Diablo, I'm not looking forward for it that much.
In other games example World Of Warcraft I was a good pvp player but to me,
Diablo is more of a story based game.
At least I enjoyed the previous games's story a lot.
This just my opinion but hey, take a look and see what you think

PvP (short for 'player versus player' combat) has had a storied history in the Diablo series.
For Diablo III, we've decided to take it in a new direction to ensure that it's deep, organized, frantic, and fun.

Diablo III's PvP battles are fought in arenas spread out across the world of Sanctuary.
These arenas aren't random -- they're all unique, designed with differing amounts of terrain and cover.
You participate in PvP using the character of your choice, with access to all of the gear and skills you've accumulated playing the game in single-player or cooperative mode.

You must be registered for see images

You'll learn many of the fundamentals of PvP (like how to avoid attacks or target specific foes) by playing the single-player game, but PvP differs in that it isn't an ideal venue for gathering new weapons and armor.
Your rewards for shedding blood in the arena are purer than that: bragging rights, the joy of sending friends old and new to their swift and inglorious deaths, and points that represent how far you've progressed on the path to fame and glory.

When you participate in ranked games (fights that pit two opposing teams of players against each other in 'best of' matches), you'll earn points for advancement based on kills, accomplished objectives, wins, and other factors. Points lead to multiplayer achievements, titles, and more.
Our system is focused on encouraging furious combat and multiplayer progression, not stringent competitive rankings, so you'll earn points after every match and Battle.net matchmaking will pit you against similarly skilled opponents.

We're also looking into other PvP game types that exist outside the ranking system, like 1-on-1 duels and mutually chosen team battles (for example, you and your friends could divide into two teams for an arena showdown). We'll have more information on the availability of these game types in the future.

Our aim for Diablo III's PvP is to set you up with dangerous, exciting gladiatorial matches, let you battle it out with other players at your own pace, and allow you to proudly display your rewards. We've added a robust system to remove the obstructions that may have kept you out of the action, so that you can focus on what really matters: answering the age-old question of 'who would win in a fight' -- with a gauntlet to the face.

Auction House System

You must be registered for see images

An Easier Way To Trade
Sure, slaying monsters, demons, and cultists is a surefire way to obtain a ton of random new loot in Diablo III, but with the new auction house feature, it'll be easier than ever to gear up your character with the exact items you're looking for. You can also post the items you don't need for players who are desperately searching for what you've got!

Don't need it? Put it up for auction!
Nearly everything found in the game, including gold, can be exchanged with other players directly or through the auction house system. So say you're a witch doctor and you've just found an incredibly rare, incredibly powerful axe that only barbarians can use. In the previous Diablo games your best option might have been to sell the axe to an in-game vendor, but in Diablo III, you now have the ability to list that axe in the auction house for your fellow barbarian players to bid on. And you know another player will probably appreciate the true value of that axe more than some heartless vendor who'll likely just melt it down for scrap...

You must be registered for see images

The auction house's "smart search" functionality can automatically sort items in the auction house based on which upgrades would be most beneficial to your character. Also, searching for the best gear for multiple characters on the same Battle.net account can be done all from the same interface without having to log out.

You must be registered for see images

Use of either the real-money or gold-based auction house is completely optional -- that decision can be made on a per-item basis, and both versions of the auction house are functionally the same. In addition, players have the option to simply sell the items they obtain to in-game vendors for gold. They can also trade items to other players through a direct character-to-character trading system in the game in exchange for gold, other items, or just an overwhelming sense of goodwill.

Blizzard does not plan to post items for sale in the auction house. The driving purpose of the auction house is to provide players with a fun additional in-game option for what they do with the items they obtain in the game. Items sold in the auction house will be posted by players and purchased by players.

You must be registered for see images

The real-money auction house provides players with an easy-to-use, Blizzard-sanctioned way to collect money for items they obtain while playing Diablo III. It also helps protect players from the scams and theft often associated with questionable third-party sites by providing a secure, completely in-game method for purchasing and obtaining the items they want for their characters.

Sellers can post items for auction from any of the Diablo III characters on their Battle.net account, or from their shared stash (extra inventory space accessible with any of the characters on their account), without logging out. And after a buyer has won an auction, the item will become immediately available to be equipped and put to good use in the ongoing struggle against the forces of the Burning Hells.

Witch Doctor

You must be registered for see images

Witch doctors are spiritual warriors who summon dead souls and crawling creatures to do their bidding. By surrounding themselves with conjured zombies and vermin, witch doctors are free to assault their enemies with exploding skulls, acrid poison clouds, and wasting curses.

The ability to infect, slow and terrify their enemies gives witch doctors unprecedented control over a battlefield. They can manipulate opposing attacks and movements with debuffs and crowd control spells, rendering enemies easy prey for hungry pets. Witch doctors can also lay down fields of fire and venom that slowly leech life from advancing foes.

Although some witch doctors avoid melee combat in favor of augmenting their pets and crippling their enemies from afar, they are also more than capable of slaying weakened foes with their own hands.

You must be registered for see images

Only a select few men and women among the umbaru tribes can ascend to the hallowed role of witch doctor, for they must possess both a history of battle and a talent for communing with spirits. The latter ability belongs solely to those born with the touch of the Unformed Land – the invisible realm where the umbaru believe the spirits of the dead dwell once they have left Sanctuary behind.

When a man dies, witch doctors feel what they suspect is the breath of life leaving his cooling body. And, when calamity or genocide sends hundreds to their graves at once, witch doctors can sense their trembling and shrieking from beyond.

Witch doctors cannot cover their ears to the voices of the spirits. As the sounds of disquiet grow louder, their choice is made. They must restore the balance between their world and the Unformed Land, or watch the torment of generations past for the rest of their lives… and forever after.

Though witch doctors make use of a variety of weaponry, they boast several one-of-a-kind pieces of equipment. Mojos are fragile talismans held in the off-hand; instead of being used directly as weapons, they aid witch doctors in warding off the wrong dark forces…and calling out to the right ones. Witch doctors have also been known to carry enchanted ceremonial daggers. Unlike common knives, these blades are honed towards one purpose – human sacrifice – and so they are well-suited to ending lives.

Expanded Difficulty

The advanced Nightmare and Hell difficulty modes in Diablo III add new progression options to the game not found on the Normal setting – increasingly powerful and intimidating armor sets, potent unique items, high-level runes and exclusive recipes and upgrades for artisans. Monsters grow increasingly more dangerous in subsequent difficulty levels.
In the brutal new Inferno mode, available only once the game's been beaten on Hell difficulty, monsters outstrip players in level range. Inferno difficulty is an epic challenge intended for players who have reached the game's level cap, and it offers epic rewards as well.

Achievements

You'll be able to show off your achievements with a battle standard, a banner visible to all players on Battle.net that will be a visual representation of your accomplishments in Diablo III. And you should expect even more ‘endgame' additions to come - ones that'll let you pursue unique goals and achieve more glory in the world of Sanctuary than ever before.

Crafting & Artisans

This is something I really wait to see and try out.
It should speed up and ease your gameplay a lot

As you meet and assist people during your journey through Sanctuary, some of the world's most talented craftsmen will sign on to travel with you. These artisans are capable of putting the materials you'll find in the wilderness or salvage from unneeded items to good use, hammering out customized suits of armor or combining gems to unlock their powers.
Invest time and money into an artisan's training, fill their shop with worthy materials, and they'll keep improving the quality of items they can produce, augment or combine for you.

You must be registered for see images

As it was in previous games in the series, a big part of Diablo III is amassing piles and piles of loot. Collecting bigger, sturdier suits of armor. Finding an axe that's sharper, more brutal, and more perfectly aligned with your play-style and build than the last one. Sifting through the piles of wands, staves, and runes that explode out of slain creatures.

But there's more to loot than random drops. In Diablo III, we want you to be able to build your arsenal as you progress through the game, turning old, outdated gear into... well, more than just extra money. We want you to be able to make deliberate choices about your equipment alongside the joy of acquiring random items from enemies and treasure chests. To do that without slowing down the game's action, we've implemented a unique crafting system.

The artisans each have their own personalities and motivations for wanting to strike a blow against the Burning Hells, but you'll still need to earn their services before they'll agree to travel with you.

Each artisan also has a particular specialty -- a grouping of items that he or she can create or modify. The blacksmith can craft weapons and armor. He can also add sockets to items (regardless of their quality), allowing those items to be enhanced and tweaked over time. The mystic can manufacture a diverse array of scrolls, potions, runes, and charms, and can also give you the option to break down undesirable runes for a shot at one you want. The jeweler can remove gems from sockets, allowing you to re-use gems over time. The jeweler can also combine lower-quality gems to produce a higher-quality cut.

You must be registered for see images

To provide your artisans with the ingredients necessary to perform their work, you'll salvage items, breaking them down into components. You can salvage the majority of loot you find while exploring. Salvaging is an effective way to manage your inventory so that your bags don't fill up, but it's also a means to recycle items you don't want (as opposed to selling them for gold).

The components you'll get from salvaging items are fairly predictable, but there's a small degree of luck involved with each salvage attempt. In general, higher-quality items will provide you with more valuable and rarer salvage than lower-quality items -- but the rarest materials are always found in treasure chests or beside the corpses of your foes.

With your pack full of salvaged components, you can set your artisans to work crafting for you. These crafted items are utterly unique -- with a few exceptions, they won't drop anywhere else -- and, like many rewards in the Diablo series, there's an element of randomness to them.

For example, let's say you ask the blacksmith to forge Fist Blades of Dexterity for you. The weapon's damage values and dexterity bonus are visible in the crafting menu, but so is a new phrase: “two random properties.” You know you want the weapon, and the attribute bonus supports your play-style -- but what are the properties? That's determined randomly as the item is made, after it's paid for.

The power and diversity of crafted items improves as your artisans do -- and their training is placed directly in your hands. To train an artisan, you allocate gold and materials to their practice, and they expand their shop -- honing their craft, enlarging their facilities, and leaving the mark of industry upon your caravan as they research new items. It's up to you to decide how you want to divide your resources among the artisans who travel with you. You might want to contribute to all of them evenly, or you might want to focus on one individual. Your class and build will undoubtedly affect this decision.

Yeah I'm totally going to play this game, a lot.
I haven't decided a name for my character yet :p
But I will announce it here, on this thread when the time is right.
So everyone who is interested in playing it, buying it and so forth, can contact me for any questions, request to create a session so we can play together and so forth.

Thanks Karmolo!
It's a shame that so few here, on NB, actually knows about the series and so...decided to create a whole thread for it.
Though, part of the thanks goes to Zise. For reviving this thread in the honor of demon slaying!

I will keep that in mind ;)

"Boring text"? No way in hell xd Did you write this all yourself? If so, I think you deserve a rep point xd
Not everything, but some yes.

The important thing is that people get interested in it and ask anything that comes to mind.
We need to spread the word and battle, against the fiends of Hell

I wondering how it´s played in multi in online can you and me paly partner or we are all alone?
Multiplayer works via battle net.
For example, I create a session, then I simply give you an invite or you can give me a request to join my game session.
Then you simply join the game and we can play together. Not sure how large groups you can form but I bet it goes over 4.

So yes, we can play together.

Friends That Slay Together, Stay Together

In Diablo III, you’ll find it quite easy to switch from playing solo to joining other players in slaying demons that are more powerful and offer greater challenges. The benefits of playing with others co-operatively are legion. When opening a chest, slaying a demon, or rolling over a rotting corpse, each piece of gold or shiny item that may pop out is yours and yours alone. If you’ve decided to forego some killing power for bonuses to find extra gold or magical items, those bonuses likewise only apply to your drops. If you decide to be a generous murderer of demons, you can drop items you’ve found back on the ground and anyone in your party will be able to see them and pick them up. This is of course in addition to the regular trade window and your options to sell, salvage, or put items on the Auction House. Sharing amongst your buddies is the best way to offset someone’s unlucky drops and keep a group of friends on equal ground.

Most importantly, although monsters get tougher as additional friends come to help bash the demonic hell spawn lumbering toward you, you’ll kill more monsters faster as long as you stick together, which means playing with others is going to result in more loot for each player.
Co-op gameplay comes in three varieties designed to allow you to quickly create groups and come together in Sanctuary.

You must be registered for see images

Call on your friends

There is no faster or easier way to group up with other players in Diablo III than making a party of character level friends or Real ID friends. With a couple of clicks you’ll be able to invite people to your current game, join your friends' games, or broadcast to all of your friends that you’re looking for more. Anyone who sees your broadcast can accept the offer with one click and automatically be added to your game. As you and your friends join one another, the game seamlessly adjusts the difficulty of enemies so your group can get right to work, and by clicking on a friend’s banner in town you’ll be instantly transported to their location to add your sword or spells to the current battle.

Take it public

Diablo III includes a robust public game finder for those times when you’re looking to meet some new adventurers. This feature will bring you together with players based on their level and the part of the game they’re looking to play through. By opening up your game to the public, anyone playing Diablo III can choose the Public Games option and automatically be placed in your game to help on the current quest. This is a perfect option for those looking to benefit from the increased killing speed of a full party, but who may not have any friends on at the time. It’s also a great way to make new friends! By using the Recent list in the Social window, you can see everyone you’ve recently played with and—if you enjoyed slaughtering monsters with them—send them a friend invite.

So you wanna fight?

That’s all you had to say! Simply create a party and choose Versus (rather than Campaign) as your game type. If you don’t have a specific friend to fight when you choose a player-vs.-player experience, the game will automatically group you with others who wish to do battle together in the PvP arenas based on level and skill. The matchmaking system will rapidly get you exchanging blows for the fast, fun, and furious PvP action.
There’s nothing better in Diablo III than standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other players and bringing the pain to Diablo’s minions, unless it’s going toe-to-toe with each other!

Do you intend to primarily play solo, with friends, public groups, or PvP?
Discuss about it :p.

Destroying Items… With Care

You must be registered for see images

Facing down the forces of the Burning Hells is a dirty job, but somebody’s gotta do it. The good news is that the rewards for dispatching Diablo’s minions are rich, as the vanquished legions of the foul fiends will shower you in gold, gems, and loot. Every item you grab will present an intriguing choice, and in Diablo III you’ll have several tools that will help you get the most out of your treasure.

Cauldron of Jordan

Shortly after you begin your adventure, you’ll be provided with a useful little artifact: the Cauldron of Jordan. The cauldron allows you to skip trekking back to town when the time comes to sell your loot. After you obtain the Cauldron, you can reduce virtually any item in your inventory to gold, just as if you had sold it to a vendor. Gold can do a lot of things for you in Diablo III, from purchasing artisan services to repairing your damaged gear to buying shared stash slots. There’s more than one way to get value from loot though, which brings us to the other handy tool you’ll have at your disposal.

You must be registered for see images

Nephalem Cube

The Nephalem Cube is another very helpful item that you’ll encounter over the course of your adventure. It works just like the Cauldron of Jordan, but with an important difference. When you click the Nephalem Cube it allows you to salvage crafting materials from your unwanted weapons, armor, rings, runes, and amulets. The process destroys the original item but yields a variety of materials that grow more powerful as increasingly rare items are salvaged. Thus, common items yield common crafting materials, but more rare and valuable items will yield potent mystical substances that can be used to create correspondingly mighty items and enhancements. You’ll want to keep a well-stocked hoard of crafting materials, because there’s great potential in those salvaged scraps.

You must be registered for see images

Crafting

Delving into the Diablo III crafting system can be quite rewarding. You’ll encounter three artisans on your journey: the Blacksmith, Jeweler, and Mystic. These crafters of fine magical items and effects will help you make brand new armor and weapons, add powerful enhancements to your existing armor and weapons, or carve additional gem sockets into your gear.

You must be registered for see images

Each of your artisans only has limited know-how initially, but with the investment of some gold, crafting materials, and Pages of Training looted on your adventure, you can improve their skills to gain access to more (and more powerful) recipes. A few recipes can be found on the corpses of monsters or in eerie ruins as well, but your artisan may need to attain greater skills before they can be learned. Artisans also don’t work for free. Crafting some of the most fearsome items and enhancements Sanctuary has ever seen doesn’t come cheap: the better the item or enhancement, the rarer the components you’ll need, and the more expensive it will be to achieve the finished product. That means it will pay great dividends to ensure that you have a steady stream of gold and salvaged materials flowing into your stash so you can reap the benefits of your artisans’ ever increasing potential.

You must be registered for see images

Decisions, decisions

Imagine finding a truly powerful artifact with just the right mix of stats. You wouldn’t want to toss such a rare treasure into the Cauldron of Jordan or callously tear it apart with the Nephalem Cube. Instead, such a relic might better serve your hero directly in your crusade against diabolical hordes… or, perhaps you could provide it to another hero in need by selling it on the Auction House, trading it with a friend, or giving it to one of your other characters via the shared stash.

Every item you pick up over the course of your adventure in Sanctuary will present you with choices. Do you keep it? Salvage it? Auction it off? Give it away? With each new treasure you discover, only you can decide the best course of action.
