okay when cell got hit by gokus instant kamehameha and half of his body blew up he regenerated and became weaker.
yet when cell blows him self up against gohan he regenerates and comes back stronger.

am i missing something here?

Well I'm guessing being a dbz fan myself that getting hit by goku's instant kamehameha wasn't a near death experience for cell so he didn't get a zenkai but just lost some of his energy. But self-destructing ,which is usually supposed to kill someone but Cell ended up surviving barely was a near-death experience for him and he received a zenkai because he almost died but when he regenerated he was back in better help giving him an exponential increase in power due to his saiyan genes hope that helped

The thing that was never explained, is how he maintained he Perfect Form even after he Spat out #18 ? Then again he himself couldn't explain it neither.

Well he said that he maintained his perfect form after he spat out 18 because his cells ,during the time he was in his perfect form, had retained a memory the power of the form and stored it away so then when he self-destructed and came back I guess he used that memory his cells retained to regen. back to his perfect form.

okay great so he uses piccolos ability to regenerate a cell that was from his perfect form so since he regenerated from a single cell that was from his perfect form using piccolos ability he comes back even stronger?
wouldnt he be weaker?
i understand that saiyan blood makes you stronger everytime you come back from near death expeireince they get stronger but he still had to use piccolos regeneration ability on a cell that wasfrom his perfect form.

Saiyans get stronger when they come close to death, he wasn't close to death because he could regenerate.

Most of the earlier answers were correct. Namekians regenerate and Saiyans become stronger after near death experiences. Cell was seriously blasted by one of the SWEETEST MOVES OF ALL ANIME the Instant Transmission Kamehameha Blast! Just like Piccolo regenerated his arm while fighting, he was down for a minute & at the same time Goku required lots of time to heal himself after each "near death experience" he incurred. Cell didn't really know what was going to happen because he'd never been pushed that far before but, he did know that he was CELL. He'd have to be hit with a CRAZY amount of Chi or Chakra, if you will, to be taken out and to completely eradicate ALL of his cells. When he self imploded he specifically left certain parts of himself behind to regenerate, even at the last second. Great question and I've never really thought about it that much but, that's why I come to this website!
Gohan was one of the biggest gangsta's of all time when fighting him.
