I beg to disagree. DBZ was "the" anime of that time. Good vs Evil, everyone was following the series as well as the movies. Then come Naruto and DBZ was history (a portrait on a wall) There is no way that we can compare the 2.

Maybe sometime in the future people will talk the same about Naruto when a new manga character is born. That's just the way it is.

There could be another anime series can be branded as the WORST but definitely not DBZ... I was thinking Blue Dragon

Doesn't have the deep moral and ethical issues that great animes such as Death Note or Code Geass possess. Animes that actually warrant a mature rating.
This has nothing to do with the subject at hand, but really? What deep moral and ethical issues does Death Note and Code Geass possess? Are all mature anime good anime? Do you read Berserk? I doubt it.

Not all mature anime possess deep moral and ethical issues. If you want to see deep moral and ethical issues read Skip Beat.

Well you aren't understanding the concept of dragon ball z it was made for younger viewers as were naruto is more for teenage to adults, In dragon ball z you never seen someone licking blood off anothers face or fighters pulling each others hearts out. Yeah there was adult content on there but it ranges different for every country because *** isn't really a big deal over there as other countries, You know how many other animes have become successful without deep plots pokemon,digimon,yu-gioh etc. Hands down without a doubt kishimoto has the best plots when it comes to naruto but here's the question have you ever reed the story lines for his other mangas??? Yeah they suck doesn't seem like his work at all you wanna know why??? because every era has it's moment as naruto is having now like dragon ball z had to shine.

You do realize dbz is a continuation of Dragon Ball right?

Only outside of Japan is it called DBZ

No character development? are you frigging serious go watch dragon ball( yes as in dragon ball not dbz) from the very beginning and come back and say it.

It started off as a simple adventure then as the characters grow up and mature it shifts the focus to fighting.

In the end though i guess retards will be retards and they are entitled to their own opinion.

Ok, so I am new here so bare with me. I saw this thread and just had to make an account to post too.

I find it ridiculous that you can say it was one of the worst, I think your forgetting that this anime was started almost 30 years ago! Back then there didn't have to be an amazing plot or anything. Give some one super strength and it was like "OMG!".
The raw factor was simply good vs evil, an on going battle that has been going on since the start of man, this alone you can base a story around, and it just so happened this was all they needed. Yes the story line was repetitive and towards the end may have gotten stale, but the emotion and determination was there throughout with raw imaginative power backing it all!

A valid counter argument? You pretty much agreed with everything I said in the original post but that you liked those things. You agreed with the fact that it is repetitive, it has a simplistic story line meant for children and that the fights were just raw power VS raw power. All these are reasons why DBZ should not be considered as great an anime as it is.
It is the same old good VS evil story line that is used in almost every cartoon around. Too black and white. And if thats how it was meant to be then it was never meant to be great just entertaining but not great. Doesn't have the deep moral and ethical issues that great animes such as Death Note or Code Geass possess. Animes that actually warrant a mature rating.
The fact that I agreed with you on certain facts is still no reason as to why it's a bad anime. You're arguing that a simplistic storyline is a bad thing when in truth, it's really not. You're such a naruto*** that you can't realize how simple Naruto's story is. Code Geass had very little political issues and was pretty much some retarded action with ecchi. The only good part was when lelouch gets killed. I can kind of give you Death Note but the ***s that gargle over that show don't even realize the issues within it. DBZ was good because it was revolutionary in ANIME style storylines. It was the starting point for other anime to follow, like NARUTO. And entertaining not being great? By the way, there are moral issues if you looked deeper into DBZ. Things like choice and holding back are serious problems for people like Goku. Going back to your point on raw power vs raw power, I even stated how they used tactics, not strategy. Of course you would completely avoid that and reiterate points that you've already stated in the main thread. The only thing that's wrong is this thread is your starvation for sophistication. That's the only reason why DBZ is bad, it's because you can't think for a moment and follow the norm that is the DBZ hate argument.

DBZ paved ways for other animes in Northern and Southern America, but I agree with you that the stories are awfully repetitive, you always know what's going to happen in the next season, so you never really on the edge of your seat. Now just because an anime was so popular doesn't make it one of the best of all times. We all know DBZ was so popular because it was the first animated to introduce god-like powers, energy and all, so it became the first anime to show that originality, other animes just copied off of it. It inspired many great actions, superpower animes of today. But in terms of shows that makes an emotional impact DBZ is not about that.

I agree when you grow older, only when you grow older with more reasons you start seeing the flaws. The lack of character development, story development, and emotional impact. With all the blood it still feels like a pg animated series, not that it's bad but it just feels like it. But give it credit for the impact it made in the world of anime. Would I go back to watch it from episde 1 again, NO, but I still go back to watch some of the fights.

Yes I hated it how Goku always get all of the actions since Cell's season was over, and Piccolo didn't get much of anything as a supporting character, but that's almost most animes. Look at the most popular animes of today except for One Piece, let's look at Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, Air Gear, Fairy Tail etc... It's all about the main protagonist only. So I agree with most of your posts.

Yea naruto's really been going towards that for the past year. Even though KM and BM look pretty cool, I really miss the old chunnin exam days when every1 was on a sort of equal playing field. Thats what really made me like the series in the first place but now its making the main characters wayy to OP.
