he abandoned konoha to be destroyed and massacred, because of a villain he partially created (in his efforts to plot a coup against hiruzen), brainwashed children to be mindless emotionless slaves answerable only to him, murdered countless people and ruthlessly desecrated dead bodies for power. all he cared about was power. he didnt accept konoha when it wasn't him running things and did everything he could to become this twisted hybrid monster in order to control kyuubi for his conquest plans.

its pretty easy to see that abandoning thousands of innocent people to torture and death in order to enact a violent coup on the survivors is far more than "questionable"

and i'm supposed to take anything you say seriously bro or even consider it ??

go make you're own thread (for the millionth time) and whine about Danzo/Itachi as much as you want, juts away from me .................................

Danzo did say he was for the village in the end, but that doesn't excuse the horrible deeds he committed.

Certainly not but at least it shows that he wasn't a hypocrite who was doing it for his personnal gain alone and the fact that Hiruzen had allowed him to have that job proves that what he did was not completely wrong and that Hiruzen should also take partially the blame since he was the one who granded him the authority to move like that, at least to some extent. Let's not just blame only Danzo while we leave Hiruzen as an angel.

He only wanted a stash of Sharingan Just imagine coming across the trophies of your kin and kith that are nothing but their eyes. ... I cannot think of anything more despicable and inhuman.

In my POV, he was not a good man.

He did not defend his village, you can't defend the village by disregarding and slaughtering a part of it.

I'd say it depends on perspective. From his perspective, he was doing what was necessary, attempting to bring peace to the village, any actions he deemed necessary to maintaining that peace were taken without second thought. It's no worse than attempting to bring peace through leniency, as in both cases, those actions can still come back to bite you either way. Danzo isn't evil in the sense that he simply found an answer to a question that had been posed for centuries that spoke to him, but his immoral actions did come back to bite him, not in a black and white way, of course, but with this particular character, the grey actions taken that lead to his death seem fitting.

I don't believe it's a question of good or bad, he did what he felt was necessary, and even if you disagree with his actions, you cannot definitively call him evil. I myself disagree with the actions he took, but calling him "evil" would be supposing that there was actually a "good" option for him, which there really wasn't.

He's definetly more complicated than Zetsu is. I think that Danzo cares for the village and want him to be the Hokage, so that he'll be assured that everything is going fine by his beliefs of what's good and bad.

But he was a hypocrite. He knew he was going to die anyway, and tried to kamikaze Obito. He always claimed he was for peace, but did nothing but lie, murder, steal, and manipulate. He is worse than Oro because Oro at least didn't delude himself into thinking it was all for peace.

yes you can if you have any sense of morality. its generally considered evil to brainwash children and make them solely loyal to you while ordering them to murder each other, while enslaving them so as to not tell anyone about you.

At the end of the day, controlling a country is not an easy task at all
so that justifies leaving it to burn?

Danzou (ft. Solo King) stopped a war.. manga fact
a war that could be stopped in much less brutal ways if danzo had simply given it some thought

You know it's easy to say that he was bad but the truth is that even the 3rd Hokage had acknowledged the need of some dirty business which had to be done
so because a stupid cowardly old man who lets himself be pushed around by advisors says something, its automatically fact? hiruzen failed to live up to tobiramas example which is why he couldnt do the "dirty work" himself.
and the fact theres a dark side of the village to begin with means the village is not all that moral or justified.
As a matter of fact it takes a lot of courage to go against everyone and even get hated in order to save the village.
save from what? danzo abandoned konoha in its greatest hour of need and let everyone get slaughtered.

Danzo is the prime example of cold logic that conquers in political life. He did what he had to in order to assure for his country the best future
no he didnt. hes a selfish murderous psychopath obsessed with power and enslaving everyone around him in order to create a fanatical dictatorship. he even plotted with hanzo against hiruzen to overthrow him in a coup to seize power and you call that ensuring his village is safe? by throwing it into chaos so he can have his militaristic ass take over?

. He may have also had personnal vanity but still that doesn't change the fact that he died for what he thought as best of his country.
and what he thinks is best is a terrifying dictatorship where everyone is mindless zombies obediant only to him, and himself the totalitarian ruler of the planet.

Even Sasuke, the person that hated him the most because of being the main reason for uchiha's massascre, even him, acknowledged the fact that what Danzo did was genuinely derived from his will to protect the village at any cost.
which is just plain wrong. danzo is the worst mass murdering brainwashing sociopath ever to get away with all his crimes for several years. he plotted to throw konoha into a bloody civil war alongside hanzo to kill hiruzen and everyone loyal to him. he plotted alongside orochimaru to control kyuubi for his own ends. he spoke about how the world needs to be united, under him of course. because power is all he really cares about. konoha can go die for all he cares if hes not the one ruling it. which he proved to be the case when he abandoned thousands of innocent people to be massacred . how are you protecting people when your letting them ****ing die.

I don't think that Danzo was a bad person
hes the worst mass murdering psychopathic monster in konoha's history. a selfish power hungry torturing brainwashing sociopathic demon who let thousands of innocent people be murdered

You certainly have some points but even Tobirama, the one you took as a prime example of good leadership, was the one who created Edo tensei, a technique which requires you to sacrifice a living being and forces a soul to fight for your own purposes by using a dead's body. Isn't that one of the most immoral things you can ever do? To use phycological war and disrespect towards the falling ones? Same goes for Ohnoki. The first time we've ever seen him, he was presented as treacherous man who even went as far to hide Akatsuki for his business. Lastly, the system in the mist village was such which was practically forcing the kids to kill each other in order for them to graduate. I'm not saying that Danzo isn't responsiible for his actions, I'm just pointing out that he cannot take the full blame for everything while everyone else is never mentioned in any way about their crimes.

As I said, his actions were immoral and he got what was coming to him. But again, there was no real right or wrong choice for him, so the description of good or evil isn't really applicable. I don't agree with his actions or the borderline madness of his methods, but he felt it was with a purpose, if he didn't feel so, then I'd call him evil.

^ Purpose is motivated by Perspective and Perspective by Self. Do the math. There are certainly clear dichotomous notions of right or wrong.

Danzo was like a negative of Hiruzen. Hiruzen loved everyone in the village which makes him a great person but a bit too soft for a leader of a militaristic organization. Danzo on the other hand started out with logically understandable ideas about "true ninja" but took them way too far, and was ultimately unable to become what he viewed as a perfect shinobi anyway.

So he is naturally a bad "person", fanatical and overly rational, yet still unable to conquer his own fears. But it doesn't make him a bad "character". I think his flaws and role in the story make him quite interesting and unique.

Exactly why I am answering the question by looking at his perspective. The notion of right and wrong holds no clear objective weight. At any rate, I answered the question on his merits as a character, my personal feelings on his actions are secondary, as I feel upholding notions of good and evil mostly lead to poor writing, which I don't feel Danzo falls into. Just of note, he's one of, if not my least favorite character, but again, that's unimportant.

^ I get what you meant as well. But within the context of ethics, everything changes.

I never said you were defending him. I just decided to give my perspective ... on perspective.

tobirama lived in a much worse era where things like ET werent that looked down on. plus we dont know what he used ET for. im assuming his sacrifices were willing as were his reanimated soliders

nonsense. everyone needs to be judged by the same morality. he had a choice and he chose to be a murderous sociopath

He had good intentions (Protection the Village), but his methods we're wrong and he caused a lot of bad things (He was partly responsible for the Uchiha Massacre among other things).

Overall I'd say he's bad in the sense that he did more bad than good for the Narutoverse. But not everything he did was bad though.
