Smoker/Sanji>Croc.
You really hate Crocodile, don't you? Smoker and Croc are on the same level, and I'd put Sanji a bit above the two of them by merit of having Haki and because we've seen more from Sanji. Seriously, though, you're only thinking in terms of Alabasta - Croc was one of the few people to come out of Marineford pretty much unscathed, alongside Doflamingo and Hancock. Do you think Oda would have him going toe-to-toe with people like Mihawk and Doflamingo if he were meant to be a weak character? People who pull the Alabasta arc and low bounty forget what he did in the war, and forget how Gekko Moriah had a monstrously large bounty, despite being the second weakest Shichibukai.

No Mihawk noticed Croc coming and blocked him. Either that or Mihawk was trying to hit Luffy with the blunt side of his sword.
That's why he was surprised? Even the anime states otherwise, it clearly shows that Crocodile intercepted Mihawk. If you still don't want to believe that then look at the panels before the clash, it clearly shows that he was lunging towards Luffy and Crocodile intercepted him.

The anime doesn't make it clear though. If Croc blocked Mihawk, then why was Mihawk surprised in the panel before that? Mihawk was going to attack Luffy, noticed Croc coming, and then blocked him. Either that or Mihawk was surprised that he was about to attack Luffy and planned on attacking Luffy with the blunt side of his blade.

Are you talking about me saying Mihawk blocked Croc or why Croc cutting Akainu isnt impressive or both? Also I've noticed lately that you've been resorting to insults instead of debating.
I debate with people who actually articulate around my arguments, it's more fun than shouting at a brick wall

It's not an insult, just an observation

It does make it clear in the anime. The point still stands, Mihawk was surprised during that clash and clearly shows that Crocodile intercepted him. How does it make sense for Mihawk to block Crocodile? I'm sure if Oda wanted to make that point clear he would of had panels of Crocodile or place the exclamation marks near Croc. instead of Mihawk.

Another question - why would Crocodile attack Mihawk in the first place? He has a reason for defending Luffy, but randomly deciding to assail the strongest swordsman in existence doesn't seem like it'd generally be in his agenda.

How would he know Mihawk planned on attacking Luffy at all? On that note, why was Mihawk preparing to slash his sword before the panel with the block, whichever side it was on?
Because he saw Mihawk attacking Luffy? Mihawk cut off large part of the frozen tsunami, so after that, Croc could have been paying attention to Mihawk, noticed he was attacking Luffy, and went to attack Mihawk. Mihawk was planning on attacking Luffy, saw Croc coming, and blocked.

If he were there to stop Mihawk from slashing Luffy, had his attention on Mihawk, and got in the way of Mihawk's slash, wouldn't that be blocking it?

No because he planned to attack Mihawk in order to stop him, not block.
I guess it's really just up to how you interpret the panels. It's kind of paltry to the main argument, anyway. Whether or not Crocodile can block Mihawk doesn't mean anything to if he can beat Doflamingo, which I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that he can't. The only argument is the difficulty at which Doflamingo beats him.
