Darui isn't all that relevant too.
With fodder I mean not really relevant to the plot.
Zabuza's role was developing Naruto's character.
Kitsuchi's role is filling that captain spot. He hasn't made a big difference, right?
They are ''just'' side characters.

Probably, he was able to give kakashi a run for his money before he died, and I assume at the time kakashi and kitsuichi were pretty equal. Not sure about now I.e kakashi mangekyo and zabuzas renimation.

Nahhh no way either of them are fodder, one was one of the seven swordsman, one is a captain in the alliance. Both are great shinobi.

Oh i can already see it in my head. Its clearly Shisui. He learned the crow Jutsu from Itachi and he wears shades to cover the fact that he has no eyes. Youre on to something
