Paying respect to people in the past I understand but in a way isn't this somewhat counter productive to the progression of society? It kind of rekindles the flames of the past between racial differences and causing some black people to say you did us wrong now we want compensation or in other cases revenge for something in the past. Yes it was terrible but hasn't it been dealt with. Close minded people will choose to blame the entire group and not just the individuals that did the act.

the mistakes from the past were many and terrible, and they should all be learned from, but also known that they are mistakes and the only way to push past them is to forgive and move on. if you spend your entire life bitter against white men for things that happened way before you were born isnt that in itself being racist. every race has done horrible things in its past but as long as bitterness still exists, we will never grow towards a unified future. slavery was horrible yes, but throughout history there have been slaves of every single race. in the past many conquering armies enslaved the citizens of whatever country they conquered.

i think what needs to happen is the teaching of history that is done in school needs to be drastically changed to show the truth of the world. like for example in elementary school we are tought that christopher columbus was a hero who discovered america, and the guy has his own holiday, but in reality he was a conqueror who is responsible for more deaths than hitler. he butchered millions of native americans all in the name of expanding spains territory. throughout the settling of the americas the estimated population dropped from over 150 million during the 1400s to less than 2 million by the 1800s, but they dont tell you that in most history classes.
exactly lol, this isnt about being bitter, this is something that i just wanted to share and most of this history goes unheard of for many reasons, as if t never happened to keep things as they are.

an immature mind would react in such a way, as you stated. This is why most of this is probably not taught in school until college. It actually helps ppl come together from my experiences. Most of the ppl in these courses are white because they are curious and they dont go to feel bad, but just to learn. This isnt about guilt, hate, etc lol

im glad you agreed and didnt take what i was saying the wrong way. everything bad in the past should be taught year round, and in a way that it helps people learn from the mistakes instead of repeating them. and history should never be sugar coated the way it is. my mom used to be a history and us government teacher, and she would always complain about the false ideals and sugar coated lies that she would be told to teach, but she was also the most popular teacher at her school because she tried to break the trend and teach truth to help kids learn from the mistakes of the past and better themselves for their futures. now shes back in school getting her masters so she can be a college professor, but we still watch history channel together and talk about the bs they spew on it all the time.

yea one could say that, but do u know about any of the stuff mentioned? The civil rghts movement was feel before KING, the early 1900's man. This history wasnt something solved in short, its been majority of what we know. This doesnt just include slavery, 1800's-present. Idk about you, but thats a long struggle in a country of equality of freedom. But this thread isnt about why something is deserved, but just to inform.

i promise if you looked into this you would have another outlook
no i am aware of the things u speak of and im sure it was a great struggle one many races have taken in the past jus like the indians when the eruopeans landed and the jews when hitler both of these being jus as harsh as what the black went through but they dont have a special month for their history u can trust me ive looked into it an my outlook remains the same it should not have happened no one anywhere deserves to suffer or be treated like that but to center themselves out as they have through black history month and b.e.t and all black school etc is jus uncalled for and in my opinion selfish and arrogant

u obviously havent looked into anythng if u know now of these things, this shows u know nt much of ur history. Blacks really came about durng Jim Crom time when blacks were forced to go to seperate schools from whites and when they wanted to go to a white school they had to go through the court system and was mostly denied. LOL u dont even know the cases that occurred, but its koo

-blacks schools were not in good conditions, but were were banned from whites as separate but equal laws. Howard U. was the first (I thnk) and only university that blacks could really enter, but would want to have to leave to attend when their schools in their current states.

i am called the master of useless information by my friends, i know a lot about history, even though i have burned a lot of brain cells worth of memory out during my teenage years, i am actually still quite knowledgeable when it comes to these things. i know a lot of the atrocities committed against one race by another, and a lot of them sicken me, thats why i strive towards seeing the world on equal ground, all as one race known as humanity.

Touche I can dig that and I find it interesting. Have you heard the one of the black kid hitchiking and gets picked up in a pickup truck full of white dudes who then beat him tie him by his legs and drag him at the back of the truck this is from memory but does it only focus on the wrongs or do they mention the accomplishments? Talks about Malcolm x and Martin Luther etc?

man im aware of all of that how does that make it ok for them to have black only schools or college funds that only fund black ppl when if it was a white only college fund it would be called racist and therefor wrong why is that ok and dont say all other college funds are for white ppl like ive heard other say because that is completely untrue

MLK and X was a small portion of such history. Yes, they had impacts but they came much later and we're even the only ones during their time.

though these things are things that still separate blacks from whites in even small ways which does promote racism, they still help a lot of young black people make better lives for themselves and any college fund for any race or for just 1 race that helps impoverished peoples better themselves is a good thing, eventually racial equality will be achieved and for that to happen all of those things will need to be changed, but until that happens we need to just appreciate anything that helps anyone who is in need.

poor guy, your 24 and its sad your so close-minded. This is wat probably a lot of (young) people think wth no clue. I would lke to educate on the matter, I mean I'm actually myself.

This is somethng i'll do over the course, if your willing to learn and not think of fairness (race).
