Black History month (day 2)

It's day two of Black History month and instead of mentioning some of the obvious, Ima probably post random; events, cases, people, etc throughout the month that some ppl may not be aware of. Today, Ima post the Emmitt Till story, which is a story that almost brought tears to my eyes. This story is one the most horrific story's in American history.


Emmett Louis "Bobo" Till (July 25, 1941 – August 28, 1955) was an African-American boy who was murdered in Mississippi at the age of 14 after reportedly flirting with a white woman by saying, "bye baby." Till was from Chicago, Illinois visiting his relatives in the Mississippi Delta region when he spoke to 21-year-old Carolyn Bryant, the married proprietor of a small grocery store. Several nights later, Bryant's husband Roy and his half-brother J. W. Milam, arrived at Till's great-uncle's house where they dragged Till with guns aimed, transported him to a barn, beat him, stripped his cloth and gouged out one of his eyes, before shooting him through the head and disposing of his body in the Tallahatchie River, weighting it with a 70-pound (32 kg) cotton gin fan tied around his neck with barbed wire. His body was discovered and retrieved from the river three days later. Mind you nobody could barely recognize his body at all. They two men, showed no remorse to a harm 14-year-old boy just because they could.

-I dont even feel this explained the depth of the story fully, but at least it should get the story across to some of you.
-(If you dont understand, just ask and I'll try n explain it alittle better)

-FYI this was one of the biggest cases during civil rghts and in history

Personally.. I dislike "black history month" why? why should you celebrate black history in only a month? its stupid.. im not saying blk history month is stupid, but to celebrate black history 364 days a year.. instead.. Why should you celebrate in only a month? I celebrate black history daily...... not just within a month.....

shyt that should be the idea bruh, but its not. We can celebrate it all day everyday if we want to, but I see this as more of a time to inform those who dont know about black history. The schools systems damn sure dont do too good of a job at it.

High schools (majority) dont teach black history right except the usual people (MLK, Rosa Park, X, etc). There are so many more people and accomplishments that are never mentioned.

i dont see why there is even a black history month there is no white history month or asian history month or indian history month dont take this wrong but why do black ppl need the united negro college fund the black entertainment television black history month etc and this is a real question i have so if anyone has an answer that would be awsome

such a question is a shame, but ur right in a way as our history is American history. Idk history u know, but u should def educate yourself

i agree. at least i kind of agree. i think things like black history month and all that are just promoting racism by setting black people apart from other races. true equality would be human history month. in online video gaming and things like that where people can say whatever they want with no consequences, i hear just as much anti white racism from black people than anti black racism from whites. getting rid of things that set any race apart is an important step to achieving racial equality. blacks, whites, latinos, asians, europeans, americans, everyone should celebrate and be proud of their heritage year round. im irish and i always take pride in my irish heritage, just as every man and woman from every race should do for their own heritage. i hope nobody takes any of this the wrong way, thinking im saying that black people dont deserve a history month or anything like that, im just saying that they should strive to have their history celebrated year round, and strive towards making it so no race is set apart for any reason, that we all unify as one big race, HUMANITY.

Could u imagine having to fight to get equal rights that u have a right or forced to feel inferior everyday of your lfe? The past is something great to learn and appreciate man, you should look into some stuff. ya but jus about every race has had sumthing horrible done to them over the course of the worlds history not jus the black i think they center themselves out with alot of things they do then i hear complaints about why are they centered out it boggles my mind sumtimes

the mistakes from the past were many and terrible, and they should all be learned from, but also known that they are mistakes and the only way to push past them is to forgive and move on. if you spend your entire life bitter against white men for things that happened way before you were born isnt that in itself being racist. every race has done horrible things in its past but as long as bitterness still exists, we will never grow towards a unified future. slavery was horrible yes, but throughout history there have been slaves of every single race. in the past many conquering armies enslaved the citizens of whatever country they conquered.

i think what needs to happen is the teaching of history that is done in school needs to be drastically changed to show the truth of the world. like for example in elementary school we are tought that christopher columbus was a hero who discovered america, and the guy has his own holiday, but in reality he was a conqueror who is responsible for more deaths than hitler. he butchered millions of native americans all in the name of expanding spains territory. throughout the settling of the americas the estimated population dropped from over 150 million during the 1400s to less than 2 million by the 1800s, but they dont tell you that in most history classes.

yea one could say that, but do u know about any of the stuff mentioned? The civil rghts movement was feel before KING, the early 1900's man. This history wasnt something solved in short, its been majority of what we know. This doesnt just include slavery, 1800's-present. Idk about you, but thats a long struggle in a country of equality of freedom. But this thread isnt about why something is deserved, but just to inform.

i promise if you looked into this you would have another outlook

though you sound a bit racist in the way you worded it, your are right in a way. if blacks try and make it so they have special rights and holidays and stuff isnt that being racist of them? if a white man beats a black man then it is a hate crime, but i myself have been beaten bloody and robbed just for being white walking through the wrong part of the wrong town, isnt that a hate crime as well. even though i have had that happen i hold no resentment for it, as it is just humans being ignorant. but if we are ever to achieve equality, which is something i hope for, then we need to stop even acknowledging a difference between races. if a black man and a white man are standing side by side, i view it as just 2 men standing side by side, it will be a long time before it ever happens, but eventually we will all just be known as humans and black/white/latino/asian/ or any other race will no longer be considered anything different, just people.
