Nah that's not an appropriate way to tell if you're out of shape. Even with good health if you haven't exercised in a while and suddenly you decide to run a mile it'll take a toll on your body healthy or not, body has to get use to that burn/pain again.

There are different kinds of exercise.

You could look like 80s Arnold Schwarzenegger and still lose your breath after running a mile.

And someone that could run 10 miles might not be able to do 10 pull-ups.

Core exercise is not the same as bodybuilding exercise.

And bodybuilding exercise is not the same as strength training.

Even with that said, you could put 100% in your workout routine and still be obese. It all depends on your diet. If you eat more than you burn off, then you'll be fat.

Use some of Hashirama's cells to increase your physical energies, or (if you have access to Lightning-style) learn the Raikage's jutsu to enhance your speed.

Well, if you wanna just look fit and not really overly buff, then running is a good way to burn fat. You just have to make sure you're burning more calories than you intake.

If you're trying to get some ab definition, then crunches aren't really the best exercise for that. Crunches don't work your lower abs, only your upper. That's why you see some people with 4 packs, 6 packs, and 8 packs.

Core exercise, such as running, help with definition of the muscle, but you're also burning some of the muscle too. So you won't be buff.

I've lost 35 lbs and packed on a ton of muscle over the past year through regular strength training and adhering to a clean diet. High protein intake, relatively low carb intake (more on workout days, fewer on off days, and generally from nutrient-dense, complex carbs). I don't really do much cardio anymore unless I've eaten a huge cheat meal and want to mitigate the damage. Unless you're specifically targeting heart health, the only real purpose of cardio is to burn calories, and that can be achieved through proper dieting. Not saying cardio is bad or not worthwhile if it's your thing, but strength training is a much more direct way to improve a physique.

Just check if your weight matches your height, if it doesn't then you should lose weight.

Depends on how often you stopped to run the mile. If you kept up your pace you definitely have good cardio. Try to push your body to run a mile without breathing through your mouthe the entire way. I think 7 - 9 minute mile is a good time.

Personally I only run a quarter mile before my workout just to warm me up. I have done the cardio route before when I was younger and I regret it. Lifting is much better then cardio in almost all aspects. Not only is it much more healthy but you will look much better, it really tones you. Too much cardio is not needed. Good luck!
