A mile is okay, especially if you haven't done any running or intense sports in a while. If you continue, you will be able to run more and more with each session (sometimes you have bad days, but it's mostly progress).
Maybe you were running too fast. You should go for a slower pace and try withstanding longer runs, especially if you're aiming to make jogging your everyday hobby. Also, for begginers, it is better to set a time goal than a distance goal. Try running 30 minutes and see how much you manage without stopping. I would go for a run every two days if I were you, that's how I started. So that you don't get quickly fed up. After a week or two, you could try spicing it up by doing interval running, shorter distances with a faster pace, etc. Just my thoughts. I have some experince, since I ran a lot this summer.
