Chapter 4: Sunrise
“N-Naruto-kun, it looks like we are working together again. L-let’s do our best!” stuttered Hinata with her eyes closed and a shy smile on her face. Kiba and Shino wore nervous expressions as they stood to the left and right of her. Naruto and Sakura stood with gaping mouths. It didn’t take long for Naruto’s anger to stir.
“Tsch…You’ve gotta be kidding me.” He breathed out. Naruto quickly proceeded to storm out of the Hokage office. Kiba had only a few seconds to step to his right before Naruto would have plowed through him.
“Huh…Naruto-Kun?” pondered Hinata aloud. Sakura, her own anger beginning to boil, started after him.
“I’ll go get him Kakashi- Sensei. We’ll meet you by the gate.” Noting the agitation in her voice, Hinata tried to ask her what was wrong however, Sakura brushed right past in pursuit of the Nine-Tails Jinjuriki. During the recent exchange, Sai kept a smile on his face. Kakashi’s eye, observing Naruto’s outburst, shifted to Tsunade once his student had left.
“So,” Kakashi started, “Was there anything left in the briefing that we need to be aware of?”
“Not much,” said Tsunade, “I’ve grouped you up with Team Kurenai due to their exceptional tracking skills. Due to Kurenai’s current absence, I’ve requested Neji to head the squad. Ah…and one other thing. The target has had a recent string of appearances in a concentrated area… Your destination is the Tenshuno Mountain temple.” Kakashi’s eyebrow rose.
“I see,” he commented, his face regaining his normal demeanor, “Well, it looks like we have a hike to the Eastern part of our home country.” With that he left the room. Sai and the members of the Neji led Team Kurenai followed right behind.
As the door closed, Tsunade folder her hands together, and rested her head on them. “Tsunade-Sama?” asked Shizune. After a short delay, Tsunade replied.
“I didn’t expect that reaction from Naruto. It is hard to believe he’d actually be acting resentful with the recent failure to apprehend Itachi… I’d reform the teams to build a more
coherent force but…”
“But what Tsunade-Sama?” questioned Shizune as Tsunade took a pause.
“In addition to being excellent trackers….the real reason I chose Team Kurenai is because Tenshuno Mountain stands as sacred ground for the Hyuga Clan. We can’t send shinobi there without the representation of the Clan.” Finishing her explaination, her eyes narrowed even more.
“Tsunade-Sama….what else is it?” asked Shizune… knowing full well Tsunade wasn’t concerned with politics.
“Heh! You know me a little too well Shizune,” laughed Tsunade. “What concerns me… is how in the hell this Shirokishi bastard managed to get within five miles of the borders to the Hyuga sacred ground without being seen. Even with his file in the Bingo Book… how the hell has he only been spotted at the heart of the grounds?” After a few moments of silence, Tsunade let out a laugh as she placed her recently obtained bottle of Sake on the table: “HAHA OH WELL! I’LL LET THEM HANDLE IT! IT’S TIME TO DRINK!”
“TSUNADE-SAMA!!!” Shizune’s cry was ignored as the Hokage began to indulge in her drinking habits.
Luckily for Sakura, Naruto was not acting as irrational as he normally does. In fact, he had managed to reach the gates to Konoha before she could catch up. As she approached, Naruto stood bent over as he panted heavily. His eyes were focused on the ground… his anger replaced with sadness. “BAKA!” shouted Sakura as she knocked him to the curb. “IF YOU HAD GONE ANYWHERE OTHER THAN THIS GATE…I’D HAVE BEATEN YOU HALF TO DEATH!” Finishing her angry outburst, she quickly changed moods, and extended her hand to help Naruto up. “Naruto look… I know Hinata was out of line yesterday. I don’t blame you for being upset. In fact… I’m pissed myself, but this is a mission from Tsunade-Sama. We have to put the mission before our emotions.”
“Sakura-Chan…” Naruto started with a low tone, “What’s with her… she’s… completely normal.” Sakura looked at him with a bit of shock. She knew Hinata was acting strange considering yesterday. What she did not get was the sadness in his voice. She could understand how he might be upset or angry about HInata’s outburst, but he had been shunned and despised far worse for years. Even if it was from a friend, Sakura did not think it would be able to affect him this much.
“Naruto,” she started, “What is going through your head?”
“When she…,” Naruto began, “She loo…” Naruto paused for several second before putting on a grin. “Sakura-Chan! It’s like you said… the mission comes first! Let’s go find this guy and kick his ass so that we can get this over with!” As he finished, Kakashi and Team Kurenai arrived on the scene. Closing what appeared to be his Icha- Icha Paradise, Kakashi waved his hand.
“Ah Naruto… Sakura,” started Kakashi, “It looks like we won’t have to wait for you that’s good. Anyways…” Before he could finish, Naruto interrupted him.
“YOSH! LET’S GO!” Naruto shouted spinning and dashing out the gates! Kakashi sighed knowing his student did not even know where the team was being deployed.
“I did not think Naruto had it in him!” said Sai with a smile.
“Huh?” Sakura looked back at the artist confused.
“I did not know Naruto could make a fake smile like you and I can! I guess he has finally grown a pair of balls and has learned to control his emotions!” Before Sakura could speak up, Kakashi spoke out.
“Enough chit-chat,” intervened Kakashi, “We need to catch up to Naruto and point him in the right direction. Move Out!” With that the group responded with a unanimous, “Yes Sir,” and leapt after Naruto.
“I did not know Naruto could make a fake smile like you and I.” Sai’s words echoed in Sakura’s head as she moved through the Konoha’s foliage. “Naruto… what were you about to say?” she thought to herself. She took a glance back to see how far behind the rest of the team was. Sai was just off to her left, a blank smile spread across his face and his eyes closed. “He must be contemplating his recent commet…” thought Sakura to herself. Kiba and Shino appeared to be focused on the task at hand; though, underneath she assumed they were just as confused as she was. Her gaze shifted from Kiba and Shino to Neji. His expression was casual… too casual. His eyes focused forward to where Naruto had sprung ahead to. She already knew Kakashi, who had been in front of her, had gone ahead to catch Naruto. When her eyes rested on Hinata who was at the rear of the formation, she recalled the recent events, and a scowl crossed her face. She immediately picked up her pace. “Neji,” she called out, “I’m going to try and catch Naruto and Kakashi- Sensei… it would be annoying if they ended up getting distracted and making this mission last any longer than it has to.”
“Understood,” replied Neji, “That would be for the best.” With that Sakura increased her pace to attempt to catch her remaining original teammates.
When she had disappeared from view, Neji turned his eyes back. He already knew what to expect, but it still upset him when he focused on Hinata. Her eyes were half closed, and focused down in depression. “Hinata-Sama…” Neji thought to himself. Once his eyes had returned to face the front, he decided to speak up, “Let’s hurry up. It will only take us more time if they get too far ahead. The target was reported to only temporarily make his visits… if we do not hurry we may miss our window to catch him.”
“Heh!” Kiba grinned, “Not only that, but they suck at tracking….if that Baka gets too far ahead, it will take forever to find them.”
“That is incorrect,” Shino countered, “That’s because, Kakashi-Sensei has tracking hounds. Nevertheless, we do need to hurry. As Neji has said, we need to move as quickly as possible to maintain the best possible chance of catching our target: Shirokishi Tsukasa.”
“Yes…” replied Hinata with her eyes still down. It only took a few more minutes to regroup with Kakashi, Naruto, and Sakura. Luckily, Naruto had been heading off to the North East. While it would take some time, the adjustment to head towards the Tenshuno Mountain Temple would not cause the platoon a significant amount of time.
Despite his best efforts to maintain his composure, Neji was growing increasingly concerned. Hinata was growing increasingly more depressed as they continued. What made it worse was that their destination was Tenshuno Mountain. The symbolic standing of ancient Hyuga grounds would likely bring about bouts of her troubled past with not only him, but with his father as well. “I-I know we let Naruto-Kun and Sakura- San down…especially since it was a chance to find Sasuke-Kun. I..I just hope they can forgive us soon.” As Hinata finished in a low tone, Neji’s eyes widened. Luckily he had maintained a forward gaze, and his shock went unnoticed.
“H-Hinata…” Kiba said, completely shocked. “That isn’t what’s wrong with them…” Following his partner’s tone, Akamaru let out a small wimper.
“Huh?” said Hinata, “T-then what’s wrong?!”
“That should not to be too hard to figure out,” interjected Shino, “That’s because, yesterday’s events should easily leave any mystery out of it.” Before the conversation could continue, Team Kakashi had stopped up ahead. When the Neji led Team Kurenai caught up, Kakashi spoke up.
“Alright, we’ve made it to the barrier…” Kakashi said casually.
“EH?! Barrier…what barrier?” Naruto asked.
“This is why you stay for the entire briefing,” said Sai, “We are heading to the Tenshuno Mountain Temple which stands on ancient Hyuga territory. If you had any…” Before Sai could start up with another odd comment, Kakashi continued.
“Hinata, would you open the barrier so that we can pass. Otherwise we’d have to wait until some of the Hyuga guarding on the inside arrived. Quite frankly, we don’t have the time to just sit around.”
“Yes,” said Hinata as she landed at the front of the group and just a few feet from Naruto. Making the slightly altered Ram sign, typically used to activate the Byakugan, Hinata molded chakra into her hands. Reacting to her building chakra, 8 blue flames appeared in a ring roughly the size of a door. As the flames finished their formation, the Kanji for “Seal” appeared within the flames, and then disappeared with the flames. “There. The door is open so now we do not have to wait here Naruto.......Kun” Before Hinata could finish, Naruto had already brushed past her and sprang forward into the Hyuga Holy Grounds. Just a few paces behind leapt Sakura and behind her fired past Sai.
“Haha…You two have no respect for other people’s land do you!” Sai said with a smile as he chased down his new found friends. After being cold shouldered yet again, Hinata’s eyes fell to the ground. However, almost immediately a hand fell on her shoulder. “Huh?!” Hinata let out a small breath as she looked to find the hand belonged to Kakashi.
“Well…let’s get going,” he said as cool as ever. “From what I’ve been told…it will take until sunset to reach our destination.”
“Y-yes,” acknowledged Hinata managing a meek smile. With that, Kakashi and Team Kurenai moved forward to catch up with the rest of Team Kakashi. As the group entered through the entrance Kakashi looked back as Neji entered. Immediately after, the flames and Kanji appeared once more… then vanished shortly after. It took little time for Team Kurenai and Kakashi to catch up with the rest of Team 7. Continuing in a loose formation, the group continued heading East towards Tenshuno Mountain. Team Kakashi moved towards the front of the formation. Naruto and Kakashi at point with Sakura and Sai moving just to the left and right of them…though several meters back. A few meters behind Sai and Sakura moved Neji who was aligned behind Naruto and Kakashi. To his sides, but even further back moved Shino and Kiba with Hinata taking up the rear. After about thirty minutes of travel, Hinata broke the silence at the back of the platoon.
“Shino-Kun…” she started, “Earlier, you said the reason should be obvious… but I still cannot think of what could be wrong. I thought through everything I did yesterday, but the only notable things I did yesterday was eat lunch with Sakura-San and return home… Y-you two would not do anything to upset him right?! K-Kiba- Kun… I know he is your rival, but you would not go that far. And Shino-Kun, I know you resent not being sent to retrieve Sasuke-Kun, but you would not hold that against him. Which would only leave me but…” Hinata stopped as she finally noticed the wide eyed stare Kiba was giving her as well as the fact Shino had decided to look back as well.
“Hinata…” Kiba started. Before he could go on, Shino cut him off.
“When I said it should not be a mystery I was mistaken, that’s because, I assumed you knew what you did yesterday.”
“But Shino-Kun,” Hinata started, “I just told you what I did yesterday! I went to lunch with Saku…”
“You smaked Naruto and called him the Kyuubi.” Kiba cut in with a serious face.
“HUH?!” Hinata’s said in shock. “I-I would never do that…I could not do… say… that’s impossible! How could you say something like…”
“I disagree… that’s because, yesterday was the Twenty-Third of July,” intervened Shino, “You always act differently, and ignore us on that day. The fact you attack Naruto, while shocking, is not impossible.”
The second Shino mentioned the date, Hinata’s widened even more, and she stopped dead in her tracks. Her heart skipped a beat and then began to race. A bead of sweat ran down her face, and she looked down, her eyes covered by her bangs.
“OI Hinata!” Kiba called out stopping several meters ahead along with Neji and Shino. Hearing Kiba’s outburst Kakashi ordered his own team to stop. He then turned and called out to Neji.
“Neji, what is it?” Kakashi asked.
“Nothing,” replied Neji. “Hinata is simply trying to remember if there are any remaining barriers. While running into one would not be fatal by any means, it still comes at the risk of unnecessary injury that could result in broken bones… something we must absolutely avoid.”
“Then why do we have to stop?” said Naruto rather annoyed. He wanted to end this mission as quickly as possible.
“It’s simple for two reasons Naruto,” replied Kakashi, “Firstly, by stopping, Hinata can focus on simply thinking. One can recall memories and details better when they place their full attention to it. Secondly, it prevents us from walking into a barrier as she tries to think.” After taking a pause he continued. “Hinata, have you recalled anything?” His question went unanswered. Hinata remained exactly as she was.
“It’s not like we have all day you know… do we or do we not have any more barriers?” Naruto said in haste. Hearing his voice snapped Hinata’s head up; however, as soon as she made eye contact with Naruto her eyes floated to the up and to the left before slowly moving down to where she simply looked to the left.
“I…uhm…well...” Hinata struggled to even speak.
“Take your time,” said Kakashi, “It is better to take it slow than risk shooting ourselves in the foot. Considering the complexity of the previous barrier… it likely takes our Target quite a bit of time to move past them… especially since he goes nearly undetected. Can you think of anymore barriers?!” Taking several deep breaths, Hinata did what she could to focus, but at this point her mind could hardly focus on the Hyuga Grounds let alone the guilt and remorse swelling in her heart.
“We… I…. no.” She finally managed to say as she finally could interpret the quesion, “The only barrier is the one that surrounds the territory.” With her answer, Kakashi gave a smile off.
“Well alright then good work. Let’s move out then. We are still on track to reach the temple by sunset.” Giving his order, Kakashi then resumed his point guard position alongside Naruto. The rest of the Konoha Shinobi followed suit; though, Hinata moved a few meter behind her original position and kept her head down as they moved.
Kiba wanted to question Neji about what just happened, but this was not the time. Not only that… but he knew the minute he tried to say anything Neji would shut him down. The Hyuga had their secrets, and on top of that Neji was already a stickler. Gaining any information from that man was unlikely. The only thing that made it worse was that he knew Shino would silence him. His insect admiring teammate always put the mission ahead of his emotions. And especially having failed to catch Sasuke when he finally was on the team…. he knew Shino was not about to let something make this task a failure as well. As a result, he decided to keep quiet, and the formation moved on in silence. After hours of trekking, the Hyuga’s sacred territory, they began the initial ascent of Tenshuno Mountain. Taking only a mere thirty minutes longer, the Konoha Platoon arrived at the base of Tenshuno Temple.
The forest was cleared out 500 meters before the base of the structure so it resulted in an easy run through the plain. At the end of that 500 meter plain was the initial stages to forming the peak of the mountain. While not an incredibly high mountain, it was a rarity in the fact that the other side of the mountain actually formed a waterfall. Figuring it in his head, Kakashi deduced the Mountain equated to roughly eight times the waterfall that resided at the Valley of the End. “Not impeccably high compared to the mountains of Iwagakure…but still, it’s a long way down,” he thought to himself, “And that stair case doesn’t help with that…” What Kakashi referred to was the initial slope of the Tenshuno Temple. Jutting out from base of the waterfall that formed the other side of Tenshuno Mountain, a natural rock formation had been carved into a rising stair-case that moved the Temple’s actual location about 100 meters away from the waterfall’s edge…making a fall from the top a certain fatality. Due to the angel it was hard to tell, but it appeared as though circular extension of land was what the stair case lead to. Though it only took him around five seconds to accumulate the environment around him, Kakashi tilted his head to the side popping his neck. “Now isn’t the time to go sight-seeing,” he thought. Shifting his focus to the mission, he addressed the team.
“Neji, Hinata, can you confirm with your Byakugan if anyone is at the top of those stairs?”
“Heh!” Kiba snorted out, “No need to waste their time.” Taking a more serious demeanor, Kiba continued. “I can smell him up there.” As Kiba finished and Akamaru barked proudly, the rest of the Konoha shinobi tensed up in preparation for the battle that would likely be coming.
“Alright let’s kick this guy’s ass!” Naruto said with a focused expression.
“No…” Kakashi said with his usually calm demeanor, “Let’s take things slow. This guy managed to slip through the eyes of the Hyuga guarding the perimeter of this land without being noticed until he gets here. More concerning… he can slip through the Hyuga’s 8-Trigrams Holy Seal Barrier. I would expect him to have traps or barriers of his own. I don’t want to give him any time to prepare or run away. That being said…” Kakashi paused as he pulled up his forehead-protector, “We do need to be prepared to fight… there aren’t a whole lot of S-Rank criminals who like to make our job easy.”
Following Kakashi’s precautions, the Konoha Patrol moved slowly up the staircase: taking their time to watch for traps or barriers. With the sun setting behind them, the group reached the top of the staircase to where Tenshuno Temple stood. Taking a couple seconds to once again capture his bearings, Kakashi scanned the area. He found the name of the location to be a tad misleading. The top of the staircase was mostly empty of decor. On either side of the staircase’s top were two lion statues. The staircase gave way to a circular extension of ground that would otherwise be floating over the contention of water that was formed from the waterfall making up half of Tenshuno Mountain. The flooring was made up of a seemingly ancient tiling of concrete given the apparent age to them. The only notable features of the mountain top was that the Hyuga Clan symbol etched into the floor’s tiling, and evenly placed around the encirclement were five statues. A demon, dragon, tiger, elephant, and eel were erected around the edge of the encirclement. The demon statue sat directly across from the staircase, and the statues evenly spaced out around the encirclement.
Sitting in the middle of the circular temple sat the individual Kakashi could only assume they were hunting: S-Rank Criminal Tsukasa Shirokishi.

To Celebrate: Chapter 4
Sorry for the waiting... I usually let Biju Naruto edit my stuff as he's really good at it, but with this good news I went and did my own edit. Sorry for any errors I may have missed.
