We all know that in Naruto, there's a strong correlation between being a villain and being depicted as powerful. Villains have to be portrayed as powerful in order to reinforce their antagonistic threat. If Sakura had a more sinister goal in the series she might have been able to demonstrate her full potential that Kishi otherwise limited due to plot. Yes, she was demi-Goddess level by the end of the manga but she had the potential to at least equal Kaguya if unnerfed.
Here are some examples of what she'd be like in Akastuki:
-Sakura captures Gaara. Sakura uses her chakra control to pierce through his sand shield (and his heart). She slightly heals him to the point where he can breathe in order to keep him alive for the extraction.
-Itachi tries to test Sakura by putting her under genjutsu but she genjutsu counters him and tortures him inside his own tsukiyomi. Inner Sakura chains him to a cross and stabs him.
-Sakura betrays Obito and becomes the leader of Akatsuki. She kicks all of the men out of the group and hires Tsunade, Karin and Ino (who she's controlling with genjutsu) to work under her. I know this one is reaching a little but maybe it's plausible.
