To assume people will do the right thing is a generalization as well by your logic. Trusting people to do what's right is unwise and naive, regardless of how "condescending" it may seem. It doesn't mean I always do what's right, it just means you shouldn't get your hopes up and you should always do it yourself rather than rely on others.

If someone has proven themselves to be trustworthy, I'll trust them, until then there's no reason to assume someone will do what's right just based on the fact that it's right.

well life will humble you. how about not expecting anything instead of expecting everyone to do whats not right? whats "right" is high subjective, what you see as right and what others see as right, isnt always the same

Ego has nothing to do with it. I've never considered myself inherently right or good, I'm just saying no one should put that kind of stock in another persons sense of morality or sense of right and wrong.

We're imperfect people. Trusting someone to do good is just dumb, it hurts the mind and the soul when it all backfires.
