The plaement is bad on the avatars.I guees it's because of the original image's size.You should either low the canvas size of avatar to the right proportion so the main part could fit or choose another image.
Other than that,nothing much.Try to find more imteresting stocks,that at least have some potential to work with.

IMO, the only bad placement is Itachi, and as you said, it was because of the original stock...
The focal point isn't necessarily meant to be on the face(front), but can instead be from the sides(Sannin Ava)...
Anyway, I think it's a matter of "perspective", everyone has his own idea/opinion about Designin(Avatars in this case.)

You can transform a stock with little potential into a great one, if you know how to, of course.
I doesn't matter, the hand/arm can be taken as a half focal point, then the other half being the hat and the face(which is between the arm/hand and the hat).If it is pleasant to the eye, then i guess it can be called nice.

That's why i put it in brackets...
And one other thing, you shouldn't criticize others work, i mean, giving cnc is OK, but you never know, for you their work may not be good, but for others it may be great.
