Step 10 : Right click on the layer and click 'new layer':

Step 11 : Fill the layer type with " transparency "

Step 12 : Hover over to the "bucket fill" tool:

Tips:
♣If you want you lines further apart, make the tiny image bigger, like 6x6 pixels or even larger. And same goes for scanlines closer together, leave the image at 3x3 pixels.
♣ You can adjust the Opacity on the new transparent layer (with the scan line pattern) to make the lines a little bit more transparent or dark

Very well done tutorial, I personally use Paint.NET and for the people who use anything other than GIMP, I paste picture on top of my image and decrease the opacity.

( I also think that decreasing the opacity works well with your method, so the lines become a little more transparent. Currently they're a bit too thick and darken the avatar a bit too much. )

I'll put that as a tip :)

Or you could just get scan brushes for gimp, they come in different sizes and different directions.
Despite the fact it's a good tutorial btw, found it even to understand though I don't use gimp :)

Yep, thanks!

Btw, for anyone wondering, here is how you do a lined border on Gimp.

1. Select>All
2. Select>Border>2px
3. Fill it with WHITE
4. Select>All
5. Choose a color for the dots
6. Edit>Stroke Selection>Line Width: 2px
7. Line Style> Line
8. Click Stroke
9. Repeat that 4-5 times ( So just do Edit>Stroke Selection>Click Stroke, 4-5 times )
10. Select>None

Example:

You must be registered for see images

There would be a space between the red and gray part^
