That's not bait, she's always been in my top three. Just my opinion, I've read a lot of manga and usually the female antagonists suck.
She's a pretty badly written character and a villain in general. She's a sadist and is ruthless, but so is every other villain in this series. She isn't the mastermind type of villain since she doesn't really plan shit, neither does she have any villainous goals at all, which is another huge minus for her. She can't decide on whether she wants to be a sadistic general or a little girl in love. She gave up on Tatsumi just as fast as she fell in love with him, for a rather simplistic reason.
However, it's true that female antagonists suck ass. In fact, I could probably name only one that I actually consider potentially good right off top of my head. Even so, that doesn't really mean I'd consider Esdeath or Kaguya good in any sense of the word. However, if AgK was a visual novel instead of a manga, I'll give you that Esdeath's character could have been done way better and actually make her good.

Going off by those specific descriptions, Esdeath is shit tier, but so are PM and Syura. Also, I just noticed that makes Makishima great or high tier (relucant part in great tier doesn't really apply to him), not mid tier. I kinda over-looked something last time.

She can decide though, that's what I like about her. She's a general but she also wants a companion as well, like every other women in the world. She's not a one dimensional villain, she's an animal. She grew up like an animal in the wilderness, and she's at the top of the world in AGK, nobody can really do anything against her. Simply because she understands that power governs the world. She's at the place right now where sasuke is trying to get, everyone hates her but has to bend over and take whatever she gives them, because no one can do anything against her.
Sadism isn't really a big thing for any manga antagonist, it's been done way too much. But esdeath is definitely one of my faves, she's interesting none the less. Her personality is the perfect imbalance that creates a problem.
*Shura is shit teir, everything he did was to please his father in hopes of being in power. Esdeath would be high tier. She learned at a young age that only the strongest survive, and the weak get no sympathy. Everything else came to her by living that way.

If she wants a companion or something, that could have been done way better. Because she gave up on that wish rather easily even though she tried harder before. There's really nothing deeper about Esdeath's love for Tatsumi other than creating a harem-like situation, just a simple passing feeling with no solid reasoning behind it nor a set of mind to defend the feeling. And the animal thing doesn't mean much, she wants to be at the top of the world and fight stronger opponents because she is a sadist, but so do Syura and PM. The animal or warrior-like habits is something every character that is raised as a warrior has.
Whats driving her isn't the fact that she grew up hunting, but the fact that she was a sadist and no one knew what's wrong with her. I don't see how that would make her even close to being a good villain. She has no villainous traits other than sadism. She has absolutely no goals other than to keep on satsifying her sadistic hobbies and she doesn't plan out anything, but just over-powers her opponents. She has no interesting methods in getting what she wants other than over-powering the enemy.
I see why someone could like her, sure, but I don't consider her the best villain of AgK, not even closely, or well, a good villain in general. She is average as hell.

Esdeath is bad not only because her character is bland, but also because she's clichè:
1. Female antagonist pretending to be strongest and ruthless? Check.
2. No motive nor reason for killings? Check.
3. Her lifestory includes hype where she fought as a child like adults, only survivor of her ''almighty clan'' and her being destined to use strongest Teigu? Check.
4. Falls in love with the prince of opposition? Check.
5. Doesn't care much about political power and kills for fun? Check.
6. Isn't extraordinarily smart and is having hard time subduing enemies who can barely stand up to her even as an army? Check.
7. Plays sadistic? Check.
8. Plays ruthless? Check.
9. Her actions throughout the manga are from a children's book and only include two things; an army and fight? Check.

Sasuke? He's a strange one. Definitely not meh tier since the description of the meh tier does not fit him at all since he isn't exactly overly insane nor are his motives a mystery. However, when it comes to mid, great and elder god tiers, all three descriptions fit him to a level. Sasuke's current mindset applies to great tier because he doesn't have an actual wish to commit crimes, but will do so because of the situation or rather beliefs he has right now in order to unite all of the villages. Mid tier fits him because he wants to correct the misdeeds done to him and his family, mainly Itachi, and he also wishes to change the current system in order to create a new one.
Elder God tier doesn't suit him when compared to other manga and anime in general, but his reasoning and motives are far better than anything Naruto or any of the good guys could ever produce, so in a sense, viewing his series only, he is elder god tier.

@AC: She doesn't understand what love is though but wants it, even though her whole life has been cold as ice(literally)she wants that warm side of life as well or at least an idea of what it's like. She's an animal it's more than being a sadist. Her whole tribe and father were all killed infront of her because they weren't strong enough, her whole driving force is the survival of the fittest. Her loving to torture people just shows her disregard for humanity, which gives her even more depth.
Towards the sasuke statement I still see him as meh tier, he doesn't ever understand the weight of his actions. Throughout the series, then whenever he does find out what he wants to do it's this outlandish almost insane way of thinking.
Even the way he wants to create the NV will only lead to him destroying the world. He doesn't think about how his actions will affect the future and those around him. He's a typical uchiha, but nardo is a douche.
