They wouldn't spoil the manga. They just couldn't show the wild hunt arc on TV in japan. So it seems like they just slapped random stuff together for the anime.

Hopefully you're right. The anime was a mess and a cluster bomb at the ending. Horrible. It made me appreciate the manga more though, which I guess is a positive.
