I Don't know about Naruto not being that smart, He always seems to use the opponents strengths against them resulting in his victory. For example Naruto used the Preta Path strength against him by making him absorb nature energy, and we with no training on how to control Preta Path was defeated...

Also, shadow clone jutsu is not just a uzumaki technique, anybody that knows the technique can use it, but depending on the chakra level is how many clones you can make and how long they can last.
