I find it odd that Madara didn't retrieve the Rinnegan from Nagato when he acquired the allegiance and servitude of Obito. Madara needed Nagato to further awaken the Rinnegan's power, but if all the Rinnegan needed was the combination of both Senju and Uchiha DNA to awaken its' full potential...

Did you notice the candles beside Rikudou Sennin when he was talking with the baby bijuus? And did you notice the Altar of Summoning of the sealing jutsu used on Naruto also have candles? Not to mention that the triangular markings on the floor where Rikudou Sennin is standing also...
