He seemed pretty dependent on his Hawk. Wouldn't a flying Susanoo have been better since it could pronably protect from lava as well as fly. I personally believe his Susanoo just falls (with style)/glides but can't actually fly. Against Madara he was definitely leaping from rock or rock.
