You think Hiruzen didn't win? Lol, you couldnt be more wrong! The way that things turned out couldn't have been more of a victory for Hiruzen and a loss for Orochimaru.
What is considered as the greatest honor in the Narutoverse, especially by those of Konoha? A death that comes from sacrifice, a sacrifice given while protecting ones family and country!
At 70 years old, Hiruzen had already lived a life befitting of a shinobi and a Hokage, respected as God of ninja and the masterful Professor who had learned all jutsu that existed in the Leaf, Hiruzens only regret had been the mistake he made by showing liniency to Orochimaru all those years ago. A mistake he corrected!

Orochimaru, who had just recently mastered the Immortality jutsu, was literally a teenager!

He had also brought with him 2 former Hokage of Konohagakure, the founding father and his brother!

It took a joint assault by both Hokage and their best signature, elemental jutsu, before Hiruzen was finally caught by the Shodaime's Jukai Koutan. And even that wasn't enough! For he brought forth the monkey king, Enma, and proceeded with his own signature style combat, with his Diamond Nyo-boi.

But all form of combat was futile! The souls were bound by contract, the dreaded jutsu of the brother. Realising this...Hiruzen apologised to his masters in spirit and formulated his final strategy. The removal of their souls and his own, through the Reaper Death Seal.

Yes...originally he had planned to take his corrupted pupil along with him as well, but how much can you ask from an old man who had been pierced by the Kusanagi? Hiruzen settled for his arms, banishing his once beloved student from all the jutsu in the world. A fitting punishment, for one who had been intoxicated by jutsu.

He left the almighty Orochimaru-sama looking like this:

He died while protecting his family and performing his duty, with an expression one rarely makes at the time of their own death:

Pay heed to the God of Shinobi

The God of shinobi wasn't even considered the Best shinobi... Even in part 1 Hashirama and Tobirama are hailed as the Leaf's best. My signature is a proof. Unless you want me to put up the full manga page also

The real problem is that it doesn't change much later on. It only delayed things long enough to keep the plot going. I do think that Hiruzen had alot of potential, but Kishimoto never imagined making his characters as strong as they are currently.

Oro wasnt a teenager.. He took over the body of a young woman. And none of the Kages used anything close to their maximum abilities
^^this Clearly Hashi's sig move was not creating a forest and Tobi's wasn't creating breaking waters please....this fight was contained inside of a trapping prism there is no way they had enough room to really let loose..

I think he was good enough to be considered that in his time, but two reasons that it becomes contradictory 1) He was old 2) Kishimoto never realized how much more stronger he had to make his characters later on. Although I think if Kishi would start from scratch again with the knowledge he has now of his characters, Hiruzen would be much more bada$$

Was Tobirama Senju really that powerful? he got beaten up badly by the gold and silver bros.
1. S/T jutsu anyone with that is OP X_X
2. Master Suiton user
3. Senju / huge chakra amounts and strong physical body
4. a genius

So I think he was pretty strong. Also, Silver and Golden bros were only sealed you know not defeated.

But the thing is he isn't HAILED as the best. Also, Kishimoto did have all this planned out. When he introduced Itachi's Tsukuyomi.

Nah man, he had alot planned out, but definitely not everything. Even early scenes of the rinnegan don't match up with how it looks today.

Or even the swirly symbol of the Uzumaki clan. That was not introduced in the Naruto Series at all, it was first shown in Kishimotos first manga. I think its called "Naruto Pilot" something like that.

Hashirama didn't use wood dragon and flower world which were used by madara against the kages which are hashi's tech
Tobirama didn't use s/t tech which he was hyped with

so no both the 1st and 2nd hokages didn't use their full power

they were toying with the 70 yr old 3rd hokage

most of all what bothers me the most is the hiruzen was an idiot to let orochimaru go the first time he found out about his evil plan in the flash back .....remember Enma the monkey insisted on killing oro but hiruzen just let him go

so at that point of time Hiruzen thought that orochimaru was more important to him than the safty of his village ..... not very hokage like

Yea the early scenes were all how they "considered" the rinnegan to be and etc. He couldn't reveal the thing itself you know. But, he already said that Hashirama is hailed as the best shinobi of the leaf.. So that just kicks back into Hashirama's hype now. And what Dan said about Hashirama.
