Anyways, i can tell may of you are to lazy to watch the video, so please go watch it. I don't want to argue, i'm tired of it. I just wanted to share something, and see your views on it. Instead i got a bunch of people arguing with me about my views.

I actually watched it, but it really didn't give me more reasons not to believe in god. As I previously stated (and was ignored), I don't believe in god. Very interesting video, I'd like to add.

Lol i was not attempting to hit hottest threads at all. I just wanted to see what people thought after watching the video, but the outcome was the complete opposite.

Why is it only humans that get to go the afterlife, why are we so special. How can you probe there is an afterlife. The purpose of life is to survive, to grow, to evolve, then to end. It is an endless cycle with no point. Are you afraid that your life is pointless?

dude i am not afraid but some of you guys believe to much in coincidences which means yourself all this because of a random explosion that came out of nothing sorry but its hard to believe something made it happen sometimes you just have to look at the bigger picture

The universe couldn’t have created itself because that would imply a paradox. It would mean that something can exist and not exist at the same time. The logical ends of this explanation are tantamount to saying that your mother gave birth to herself!

Stephen Hawking in his new book The Grand Design argues that the universe did self create due to the law of gravity,

“Because there is a law like gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing…"

But his view on nothing is not really nothingness but is space filled with the quantum vacuum, which is part of the universe. In essence Hawking is telling us that the universe can create itself, but it has to already exist for it to do that!

Concerning the law of gravity, well that is just a mathematical equation that describes nature. This law is part of the universe, which can also be described as a force of attraction between material objects. Therefore, how can this force exist before matter, in other words the universe?

To assert that the universe created itself would be absurd and self refuting, because in order for something to create itself it would need to exist before it existed!

This ^^

Theres also no way that we just happen to randomly be the only planet with life, and the only lifeforms on it capable of speech and feats such as teh car, computer etc.

Yeah I am looking at the bigger picture but you typed that really bad. I never stated that we just came out of nothing. There is still a lot which is yet to be learned. And what is the big picture to you? The big picture to me is science and logic. I would rather believe that which can be proven instead of that which can not, and is started to get proven otherwise.

Make a religion thread to hit the hottest the quickest way possible

Son of a mother haven't i said enough that this wasn't an attempt to make hottest threads. I just wanted to see what people thought of a very interesting video but people are too impatient to watch it and are just arguing with me without watching it.

Oh...wow...another one? Seriously? Hawking might be smart, but some of the smartest people often happen to be the dumbest as well.

I did, it is my guitar hero jimmy page.

I am a catholic, but i promise you, your views will change with just a little sacrifice of your day.

I'm sorry if thats how you view it. I did not even have that in mind. I find the people on this website very intellectual and i wanted to see their views.

I'm sorry i cannot.

@bold: ...I've only found maybe 2-3 people on this whole site that actually have intelligence above that of a monkey...your statement about intellectuals being here is...

I watched the video (well some of it I mean 42 minutes really?). Anyways, the video stated how he believes that the universe was created. What I don't understand is how can cosmic energies just be there to create the universe. Who created the cosmic energies? I'm a Christian who believes in evolution and all that science stuff. I'm not saying he's wrong, but I am saying that some things we just aren't meant to find the explanation to.....

Very interesting. I like you, disagree with him on this.

why cant science prove 100% that evolution is correct? why cant science prove 100% that the big bang really happened? science hasnt proved anything. also why are there still monkeys in on earth? why havent the monkeys evolved in to humans yet? science is just an excuse to not believe in God

No problem, mate. Thanks for sharing it.

I guess I came to not believing in god because of the way believers (not all, please forgive me for my generalization) treat others. I guess it could be argued that this is how I first became against organized religion (church). I saw no real good coming out of it. I was born and raised Roman Catholic, and the most I saw was lots of judging, my personal experience, I am not attempting to say that this is 100% true 100% of the time. I began questioning the whole thing. Questions like "if there was a god, why xyz happens?" "why would he want xyz?" or "why would I be punished for doing xyz?" None of it made sense to me.

So that's how I turned agnostic. Then I started to actually READ the bible, not the passages my priest would preach about, but everything. Desperately trying to cling to my faith. I didn't find anything to keep me believing, I only found reasons not to believe. In my opinion, if there is a god, he is a cruel god. Not a loving god. Now, I am an atheist. But I try my best never to say "there is absolutely no god" because how can I possibly know if there's one or not? You can say that is the definition of being agnostic and that I am not really an atheist. I'd like to disagree with that. I wouldn't say I am still an agnostic because I am no longer questioning god's existence. I no longer care if there is one.

As I said before, to each their own. Just don't try to make laws that interfere with my life in any way based on your religious views.

It could be argued either way. It could be argued that religeon is an excuse not to believe in god also, and vice versa. I'm not saying stephan hawking is correct on everything, and there is still a lot that is yet to be learned. Look man, i just wanted to see what people thought about a video.
