yea that was strange it somewhat confuses me but at the same time if the sould was in the body and not occupying another dimension then all bodily wounds would be fatal because the sould would be torn there would be no need for RDS or Pains ability.
Maybe only certain things can touch the soul. That could be why bodily wounds don't hurt the soul but something like the Shinigami's hand can touch it.

But since the soul is not in the original 3 or 4 dimensions and the reaper can still reach it wouldnt it be able to reach into the kamui dimension?
Well I would say its because it resides in another dimension and also if you noticed when pain used that jutsu only he and the person it was effecting could see the soul.
Do you know if RDS is instant? Because if it is tobi is screwed because all of his attacks involve physical contact outside of kamui, but the real question i had is can the reaper reach into kamui
If he did then something changed because in nagato's attack on the leaf people wondered what was going on when nagato used that jutsu on a person. Also it could be because Bee and Naruto are so closely linked. This is all assuming that he saw it which I dont recal can you try and find that chapter?
the kyuubi is another example. They had to restrict it's movements so it can be successful. It happened with orochimaru, the kages, and the kyuubi, that's all of them.
The kyubi I would argue is a totally different example because of its nature its chakra/soul is so much more increadible than a normal human such as tobi. The kyubii is the only time we see minato use RDS (obviously) but he does it with increadible speed which is impressive because of its tremendous power so it seems like on a lesser soul that RDS from minato would be nearly instant so the moment obito materialised to attack all minato would need to do is touch him which for minato isnt that hard.
You're not thinking. Tobi would just continue to dodge the hand of the reaper death seal, which is why he has to be immobilized for it to work on him. But again it's almost impossible with tobi's kamui
all minato needs to do is wait for tobi to come out of kamui and grab him momentarily if there was any delat the hand would catch tobi and he would be imobalized.
That wasnt his sould nagato was sucking out his chakra like ninjutsu so thats why Bee could see it but i think the arm could get him in the kamui dimension but this other guy makes a good point without being restrained tobi could dodge the arm
Kamui is instant bro, by the time minato grabs him and tries to pull his soul out tobi would be long gone. As for your question, tobi is the outter path who governs life and DEATH he can see the reaper. He should be able to see it with sharingan as well because it's manifested chakra.
