How I see it go in future :
1. I expect Naruto and the Hidden Leaf village get the notice anytime that Jirayai has been defeated by Pain, including whatever news Jirayai wanted the Hokage/Naruto to know. I don't believe I need to explain the death of Jirayai will be a huge kick in the stomach for Konoha. The worries will be high. I believe Naruto will be told the thruth about who his parents were, and the predictions surrounding Jirayai.
2. I don't expect the manga to go into battle in the next 20-30 mangas. I believe we will see a lot of flashbacks, and a lot of facts about the history. I wouldn't be suprised to see Pain end up with Sasuke ... or versus Sasuke.
3. It seems high likely to me that Naruto after hearing about his past and Jirayai's death ... he will be shocked , and more determined then ever to grow and control more power. He will know what strong enemies he will have to deal with, and Sasuke is far beyond Naruto level. Naruto will realise then, which he already has in my opinion. He wants to save his friend at all costs, so it wouldn't be weird to see Naruto go out of the manga for 10-15 episodes, where he would be training himself in solitute. Meanwhile I'd expect to see some mangas about Sasuke and his team making a plan to hit on Konoha, and see some story around Pain. Whatever way you turn it, Naruto still has to go out and train more, grow more power and skill if he wants to compete versus people like Pain, Madara (nobody knows how strong or weak he actually is currently), Sasuke
As for the power Itachi gave him, I see 3 possible options
1. A power to counter the Sharingan/gen-jutsu. Seems very possible, as otherwise it would be hard fighting, considering the Sharingan has a power over the Kyuubi inside Naruto
2. Somewhat an implanted history of Itachi, Madara & the leaf/uchiha ... and Naruto would be able to tell Sasuke the real thruth. Seems kinda weird to me though
3. A way to control his Kyuubi power. Again this is very possible. Madara being able to control the nine-tail fox (?) ... Sasuke being able to see the kyuubi inside Naruto, as where the kyuubi clearly announced "what dominant and dark eyes" Sasuke has ... dominant as in being able to control powerfull creatures as these. If the Uchica would be able to control massive powers as these, I wouldn't be suprised Itachi was able of, and passed it on to Naruto
I believe there was a lot of power inside Itachi we never saw. However Itachi was a good guy, and we never really saw him push out a lot of his power. He ussually defended himself, and merely toyed with people. I've never seen a fight where Itachi from start on went on to instantly kill his target. He always seems nice and never took initiative. I wouldn't be suprised Itachi had some credible powers as controlling kyuubi power, but which we never saw due to his good character, and not the evil desttroying all-using power person.
A turn in the story that seems possible to me : (this is a very wild guess, but would be a nice addition to the story):
Naruto who leaves the leaf village to go train to be able to withstand Hawk team on Konoha and be able to save his hometown. Hokage is letting Naruto go, even though she knows Pain might be coming to Konoha for him. In the meanwhile Pain who is getting off at Konoha might be able to kill the Hokage. In some furious battle, Pain might be killed or retreat. Naruto returns, and The leaf village is without Hokage and in chaos. Naruto returns with full enveloped powers, as controling his wind-chakra and greatly amount of kyuubi powers. (Hopefully he will look more adult and less kidd). Who knows he might be taking over Hokage after they tested out his new power.
